At present, the lowest distance between the surface of the flowerbed and the glass in my hotbed is 50 cm. This means that the tomato plants that I will plant must not be too tall. I will plant them at the end of March and they must not grow to a height of more than 50 cm until May 15.
Of the fourteen varieties whose seedlings I have behind the window, there are twelve determinants that should not be a problem with height. But I think in general, there are tastier varieties among indeterminate tomatoes, and I would like also to grow these in that hotbed in future. But keeping indeterminate varieties low is a problem. This year I am testing two such varieties (Start F1 and EM Champion). When their seedlings had eight leaves, I cut off the top behind the fifth (or fourth leaf) and planted it. Today, these seedlings look like this (Start F1 on the right). Their growth is about 14 days late, but I hope that these plants at the time of planting will have flowers just like other varieties.

Hello Vladimir,
they look fine for the purpose. What's the span that you plant them in? I just got an idea, okay, don't laugh if it sounds foolish to you or if you got the same idea a million years before me. What about planting them a bit farther from each other at the lowest part of your cold bed and tying them to a horizontal bar or wire so that they grow horizontally rather than vertically? Sure, it would be a tough job for your back but it might be worth it. Trying to be helpful.

For me, this way of leading is useless. In any case, I will grow these tomatoes in simple cages at 60 x 45 cm intervals, just like last year (see post no. 474 in this thread).

Last year I found out that I could no longer manage my garden and I would have to limit my cultivation. The problem is mainly commuting to the garden by public transport (back and forth for an hour and a half). I will grass half the beds and I will grow a limited assortment of vegetables. I will be growing else a lot of tomato varieties this year, but I don't know what will happen next year.
I will sow the seeds of indeterminate varieties next week, they will go to the garden after 15 May

I've been sitting at home all week, I have an illness, but it's not covid or omicron (I tested). I don't have a hotbed ready and I don't want to go to the garden. My seedlings are already quite large, most of them are already blooming and have small fruits. Some, such as Beaverlodge Slicer, Sarayev Shtambovyi, etc., already have fruits larger than 1 cm (see table - I only have green, not red). I carry the seedlings on the loggia to get used to the direct sun and low temperatures. And so it will be at least another ten days, because the forecast reports that night temperatures will be below 0 ° C permanently during this period, and at the end of the period the sun, which I need to warm up the hotbed, will not shine. I hope that on Monday I will be fit and able to prepare a hotbed for planting these determinant tomatoes. I have a beautiful seedling, the best in the last five years.
