That's funny, it was a lot earlier last year than when I grew it the first time, too. Thought it might be an effect of starting it later (longer days, warmer...) Also wondered if the short season conditioning, ahem, encouraged the expression of earliness that was lurking.
Anyway, Gary, don't all the best early-midseason tomatoes start to bud around 4 weeks? At that rate, it['s only one day early. The OJPL was a lot earlier than Northern Lights last year. A lot. And it kept on pumping right into the fall. I love it, and I miss it already thanks to my stupid mistake. Enjoy for me, please. I sorted through my outdoor collection of rejected plants due to a risk of frost tonight, and found one Northern Lights with nice buds on it. A keeper. We'll see what the rigors of the season do for that tardy gene... |

I'm now about a month away from starting a thread on this years swap. It will be titled "2015 Mostly Mystery 'Mater Mailing".
I'll have to look through the 496 PSTS in this thread to see what worked and didn't work so well, from last year. I'll also be posting a list of the very common varieties that have been sent in to the past swaps. Also, the varieties that I have in bulk from last years donations. As in past years, it's your swap. I'm just the host (chief enabler). So, any suggestions for improvements, new categories, etc... are welcome. Gary |

If you send me your updated "have list" (like you've done the past few years), along with your wish list, there shouldn't be much of a problem, for you.
For others, who've been in the swap for a few years, I'm not so sure. There are certain varieties that every participant has likely received if they already didn't have them. Like Cherokee Purple, Black Cherry, Kellogg's Breakfast, etc...These I usually send to newbies. Then there are those varieties that maybe 1/4 of participants get one year, but in another year maybe only a few people get them. I really can't keep track of those, as for who got what. One thing I might change is the size of a wish list, depending on how many total varieties someone would like back. Say someone would like ~100 varieties (that's been the average over the past few years). I'd let them have a wish list of 10 or so varieties, with the rest being mystery varieties from the categories they'd like. Say someone else would like only ~50 varieties. I'd then let them have a wish list of maybe 20 varieties. And, if someone only wanted ~30 varieties back, a wish list of 30 varieties would be fine. If a wish list can't be completely filled, it'd be up to the participant if they'd like mystery substitutes. |

Oops, disregard the first part of my post (with the send in list). I had you confused with another participant from last year.
Now, if you do send a "have list" that would solve the potential problem. If the have list was not in alphabetical order, you would create an even bigger problem. Last edited by Tormato; August 3, 2015 at 04:48 PM. |

Thanks, Tormato, for hosting (enabling) again. I received some fantastic varieties that are making beautiful tomatoes this summer!

LOL Gary you do this to me every year. A man with a plan. You announce the swap before I even have had one ripe tomato. Then I feel that I have to rush to save the seed from each tomato so that I will have enough to send in.
Well I have so many wonderful varieties now that I will enjoy eating my first tomatoes. I really do not need any more seeds. If after enjoying my fill and I have enough tomatoes to save seed from, I just may decide to join the swap after all.

A hearty thank-you to the folks who sent in Noire de Crimee last year: what a wonderful, productive plant loaded with fruit. Indeed it looks different from Black krim, the fruit is smaller (=manageable), and I think this will become a new favorite of mine.

Gary, I'm excited to play this year as a newbie to your swap- the "knock your socks off" best-tasting category is irresistible! I have one for that category, and it's a new family heirloom of mine. I'm not sure the rest of my offerings are super rare, but I will do my best!

Hooray! Mine are just beginning to blush, but I'm already working on my list for next year. Thank you for being willing to do it again!

I'm so excited about this! I've been trying to make selections of what varieties I can offer all season, and I think I've landed on Cow's Tit, Romeo, Santa Maria, Work Release, Orange Russian 117, Cherokee Green, and Black and Brown Boar. Those have so far been my favorites for production, taste, and/or rarity that I think will be appreciated best in the 2015 swap. Two other of my favorites on taste alone (although they are being very productive) are Fantome du Laos and Dwarf Pink Passion, but I'm not sure how well received they will be in the swap.
I'm about as excited just to share my seeds as I am with receiving new ones! Having participated in the swap last year, I feel much better prepared this year. Thanks again for taking this on Tormato! |

Romeo is on my wishlist, how did you like it? This will be my first year in the swap, I need to read up on what to expect I guess.
