LOL, that has got to be the ugliest tomato I have ever seen! Are you sure that came off of a tomato plant and wasn't some science experiment?

Not going to win a beauty contest but that’s not the goal.
Mine above was smaller than I thought it would be, only 29 oz which is big for my garden for sure. I have a couple of even though singles. beauties, Domingo s that will be heavier even though from singles!

My plant from Dan's seed was a bit sickly early on, and only produced one megabloom, which didn't pollinate completely. The plant has since taken off, so I'm hoping for some new fruit soon.

Last week a tomato weighing 9.65 pounds was entered into the GPC Contest. This is a new world record and was grown from the variety Domingo.

Domingo! I've grown that (two plants on one year, 2018, with black plastic). Mine weren't giant, though! But I did almost dry farm them, they got a kind of late start, and they probably needed more potassium. The plants were small. The fruit was maybe medium to large. It was midseason for me (not early midseason). I want to try it again now. Unfortunately, I didn't save seeds, because I wasn't impressed and I was worn out! Aargh. I wonder if I used all my previous seeds. Fortunately, I realized that was a mistake before I read this post (so, I've been trying to save seeds from everything, this year).

I've posted just once to this thread. It was last year and I mentioned the torrid heat spell and how the tomatoes seemed to be a bit better with shade rigged up. Well, I now realize that this is not the "large tomato thread" as in a very large thread about tomatoes with over 114,000 views and over 500 responses. It is the *large tomato* thread as in megablooms making megamonster tomatoes! Geez, I feel stupid!

So, after just finishing reading all 36 pages, I am in awe at the stuff you people are growing and I will be following your progress this year. With bacterial wilt and nematodes in the soil here I have to do my tomatoes in large buckets so I won't be competing. But I sure as heck can put the knowledge gained here to use to help maximize what I do grow if the heat this year keeps it down to a dull roar. High night time temps are also not a help.

Biscuit, congratulations on your new record! And best of luck to all who are trying to catch him this year.

Over in the Wanted Varieties forum, I've put in a request for Domingo.


And since I'm here, has anyone tried, or though about, using an "anti-gravity" method of planting, such as having a very tall raised bed, and drilling a hole in the side, so that a plant can then be forced to grow downward from the rootball?

Have any of you tried Goat Bag? I pulled this off today due to blushing. It is only a double! It feels like at least 3 lbs, I'll post some scale pics soon. There are 6 other lunkers on the vine still. This particular type just makes very large tomatoes, period. The singles on my plant are probably 2+ lbs. This would be a great candidate to get early season-cold night megablooms that could result in some very interesting sizes!

Have you gotten more than a double, a double on a giant would be around 5 to six pounds approximately. That's a nice looking tomato, I'd be interested in seeing it on the scale. Thanks for sharing!
