Passion Vine
There has been discussion in this thread regarding passion vines. This is one I saw this morning when I was at a local nursery. It was labeled simply "purple passion vine."

More passion vine
This one was labeled "Pura Vida." I didn't buy any of the vines today because I purchased an "Inspiration" one a few days ago and I don't have room for more vines.

Georgia Okeefe
She has a couple prints out there somewhere I think I saw.She did mostly orchids which we have hidden, also those Venus fly traps etc. There is a two fold discussion among some regarding the resemblance of those petals.I stay away from that one.Passion fruit which we have gets confused also, but both are that brilliant red, vermillion.I dunno.

Passiflora Edulis Flavicarpa
I have fresh passion fruit vine seeds if anyone needs/wants some. My vines are loaded. Have over 100 fruit so far..waiting for them to ripen and drop from the vines. Best grown in tropical climate with high humidity and full sun. Will stand a frost of 32 degrees..leaves will fall off but will quickly recover in the Spring.

The passiflora edulis flavicarpa variety taste like a little like strawberries and guava mixed together. The fruit pulp is more sweeter the longer you let it ripen. I let mine ripen until the yellow skin or rind starts to wrinkle. I love to mix the pulp with my vanilla bean ice cream or make a smoothie. Can also mix with yogurt.

My corky stem passion vines are getting decimated by Zebra Longwings, our state butterfly, and our native passiflora. |

Passiflora Inspiration
I bought one a couple of weeks ago and thought I could grow it in a very large pot on my patio. Wrong! The thing is growing at an alarming rate and is already taller than the "trellis" I put around the plant in the pot.....(I confess I used a tomato cage as a trellis). Anyway, I moved the pot (not an easy task) against the fence, but I need to find ASAP some tall trellises to put between the pot and the fence to support the vine. The thing grows like some monster.
Anyway, I hope to get blooms and fruit this summer. Donna, Texas Gulf Coast, zone 9 Last edited by SpookyShoe; May 12, 2018 at 04:35 PM. |

You may have to wait and see. Some passiflora hybrids are crossed and the flowers become sterile and will not produce fruit. Time will tell, but you should get a great display of flowers. Perhaps it will cross pollinate and you might get fruit.
