Vince - my 4 orange A F2 plants are now just setting fruit. One F1 plant has fruit the size of my thumbnail (and growing), the other is the same stage as the F2s. Everyone is healthy and happy.

any idea if they are beefsteak or cherry type yet? The beefsteak ones I have seen so far have the distinct wrinkles, even at ta very young stage, and are not globe shaped at all.

Vince - it looks like at a very early stage, fruit on one of the four Orange A F2 plants is showing distinct wrinkles. The other three appear to have a slight nipple and a little bit oblong. One of the new F1 plants has fruit that is perfectly round, w/ no nipple, the other is too early to tell yet.

Can't wait to see what comes out!

Just picked some fruit off Orange b(F2) plant #2, Definately red globe cherry. Very good flavor 7.5, full tomato flavor(didn't weigh these, but over 1ounce for sure). Got another off off of plant #1 and it was at full ripness, beefsteak bicolor and the flavor more complex, maybe improved to an 8.

getting color on my red a plants. Any news from anyone else?

Fruits from red a (8+)have a far better flavor than the two orange b plants(down graded to 6.5 flavor, after I have got better maters for comparison). Equally good news is one of the two red a plants has Brown fruit! Nice green shoulders and dark gell inside. I have been lucky only growing 4 plants out (at my place) to get a brown and a bicolor beefsteak! the other red a plant is a red. Both plants have fruit over an ounce for sure.

I have two plants from Vince's F1 seed. The first is just starting to turn color (see picture). The other F1 and four F2 orange A plants are a couple weeks behind.

Nice Frogsleap can't wait to see the results.

A little summarry so far as color.

For 6 F1s we see a ratio of 4:2 Red to Orange(Bicolor).

3 Reds (a and b) and 2 Oranges (a and b) have thus far been taken to the F2.

Frogsleap has harvested red c seed and we will see results on the F2 later this fall.

What we know we can get, so far from each line in the F2 gen.

Red a- 7 Red (all large globe or distorted globe cherries), 3 Brown(2 large, one of which has beef steak tendancies, the other a super dark sungold sized cherry), 3 orange cherries, 1 Orange/Pink bullets cherry sized

Red b- No record yet

Red c- No record yet

Orange a- 1 Orange Bicolor(cherry), 1 Pink(mini beefsteak), dusty orange w/ brown/green highlights, a medium orange, a deep orange w/ faint red bicolor just below the calyx, and a medium red.

Orange b- 1 Orange Bicolor(up to 3 oz beef steak), 1 Red globe

I have another dozen or so Red a plants in sandiego, and will get to take a look at these this afternoon. Last month I saw these and noticed at least one definately had larger beefsteak type fruit(this one the gardners killed). So will soon get a better idea of how easy Browns are to find.

Also Have another 12 or so Orange bs in pots at my place which are just starting to set flowers.

Lots of fruit set on the reb a plants at my moms. Some just starting to show color. However, the one that had ripe fruit was another brown! smaller than the other, a real cherry. Taste by far better 9+ than black cherry 7+. I will update the score board above in the last post.

I went ahead and started some of the Large Brown F2 seed, to squezze in an F3 Crop. If anyone else has time to grow anymore this year and are interested in any of the F3 seed I have, let me know.

I can't guarantee results, but I'm willing to give it a try. My season has gone pretty well thus far.

Vince - I'm in for the F3. I planted this time last year and was just able to squeeze it in. I'll plant in pots so I can protect in the late season if needed. I harvested my first "new" F1 fruit yesterday, a large red cherry. I have the seed fermenting and will plant a late F2.
