Paul, thanks for sharing the moving story about your son as well as Ben Gantz seeds.
I am especially interested in reading results from Tania, Sue, D, Dice and Jeanne. Gardeners in the Pacific Northwest and in cooler summer/short season areas are always looking for short season/tasty tomatoes. All the best to you and your family. Edit: Just went back and clicked on the link for background info on Ben Gantz. I usually find the science behind tomato crosses to be snooze inducing. I leave crosses to those who enjoy doing it and very much appreciate their efforts. Anyway, I found your site to be very clear and easy to read. Thanks again. |

Germination: 7 of 10 after 7 days. It is possible more might germinate after today. Heading for a weeks' vacation and having a friend look after the seeds. Hopefully, he doesn't kill them.

I'm way behind everyone else, only put the seeds in last weekend but by today 6/6. Can't ask for better than that!

Of the 13 varieties and 50 or so plants the Ben Gantz are doing better than any of them. Not sure what I've done wrong this year but my tomatoes are not growing much at all. They look healthy but just small. I planted them over 2 months ago (Ben Gantz maybe 7 weeks ago) and none are over three inches tall. But the Gantz I'd say are doing better than any and I'm hopeful they will start growing as I'm moving them outdoors now when I can. I'll keep you posted.

Mine are doing the same thing pacman, not sure why. however I probally do need more experience, the weather has been difficult to say the least and I have a new garden site. I'm not giving up hope though.

Ben Gantz (2 plants) are doing well and have been transplanted into qt. sized yogurt containers. They will be on a day trip out to the greenhouse today with very nice daytime temps and sun.

My Ben Gantz plant, too, has been one of the largest and healthiest so far. I planted it in the secondary plot. It is in a small row near the driveway in natural ground. It gets full sun all day, which can be a bit much around here in August. Of the six plants in the row, four of them are earlies; Dokhodny, Ben Gantz, Gregori's Altai and Early Large Red. I have grown GA and ELR before so I know what to expect from them. Both are often VERY early for me with GA usually coming in first. Pics and more info to come later.

Here's my Ben Gantz after being in its pot for about 4 weeks now. It seems to be doing quite well as it has gotten full and large. Even started flowering! Looking forward to this one.

Ben Gantz has been forming buds while the other early's have been getting bigger. It has gone from the largest early variety plant to the smallest but is the first to form buds. It is being grown alongside Dokhodny, Gregori's Altai and Early Large Red.

My BG has blossoms, too. It's nice and stocky while others are getting leggy.
