The first 26 plants that Craig raised for me arrived yesterday and were in excellent shape and were transferred to a standard nursery tray with an insert with cells to keep for maybe a week or so more before being set out by Freda.

The rest of the plants should arrive in a couple of more weeks. They were a bit later b'c germination took longer.

And since there are a couple of varieties where I'm the only one growing them b'c germination wasn't the best with some of them that the others had as well, the folks I mentioned in my post above, my fingers are doubly crossed that all will go well and that I'll be able to get seeds off those one of a kinds that I'll have. For some there just are no more seeds to be had.

I'm hoping they all do well! This is going to be the latest I'm planting, ever! I hope the season lasts long enough to see some "Great Expectations" materialize. If nothing else, it's going to be much easier to plant as the size of all my seedlings are so much smaller than they've been in the past. Hopefully learned something from last year where all my much later plants did so much better.
I'm hoping such tactics work for you too! Will Freda be getting any help from her son with the plantings. How many more are you expecting? I wanted to limit my plantings to 25 this year but as usual I've gone over that number, at least in seedlings waiting to get planted out. Will see where I stand after they're planted.

Camo, well, the invitation stands. My mom lives in Lebanon, PA and she won't travel this far anymore either. (2 hours south) She WILL cut down a 50 year old pine tree and dig out it's roots though! LOL

If you like Dora better than Gary O then I MUST try Dora! I absolutely loved Gary O last year!

Dora was a treat and produced more than Gary O'. You might want to add Sandul Moldovan, Lillian Maciejewski's Poland Pink and Barlow Jap to your list of future new varieties. I think Tarasenko 6 is another and if you like Dana's Dusky Rose, you have to try Amazon Chocolate, which is larger. I could go on, but I don't want to overwhelm you. A few new ones at a time, it might edge those hybrids off your list. I was down to just Sun-Gold as a hybrid till greyghost sent some of those burpee sweet seedless to try last year.
Neither of them made it this year. all heirlooms as I had to reduce what was planted. Enjoy!

Freda has been caring for all my plants that have been sent up to me since 2006 from arrival to planting out in the Gro Bags, to care for them, making observations for me, to harvesting fruits and helping me set up a few fermentations each year although major seed production has been and is done by others.

Freda's son is newly married and is also still in college. Before he has helped with restaining the deck as well as trimming trees on the deck side so they don't make contact with my home. But he has no spare time now.

I'm expecting 10 more plants from Craig for a total of 36, but he added a couple I didn't even know existed, selections from the Tad X Brandywine accidental cross that gave is Lucky Cross and Little Lucky, and then three from someone else who asked me to trial them.

Freda and I will find a place somewhere but it may mean no cukes or my fave summer squash, a lebanese one, or some other stuff that's normally planted in large containers that has to go.

till yet are 8 Plants planted in the Cold Greenhouse and 25 Plants are under the new Mater Roof plant for plant in the last 3 days, had to do this cause many of them are already too big and have blossoms and little fruits alreadys and the space is not enough anymore under the growlamps and other things must be sowed too. till yet the first planted lookin fine, although the weather was terrible the last 3 days raining and storming, tomorrow it should get warmer and no rain, i hope it very much. the last plants, who are planned 2 for Greenhouse and 11 or 13 under the roof and approximately 20 + - comes the next days then in hanging baskets and containers. i'm happy when planting is all done and all can grow hopefully now healthy till harvest time.......

Thirty six isn't too bad, I was under the impression there were more than that coming. Right now, that's much better than what I have going.

Was unaware of marriage congratulations across the board...to Freda and her son!

After news I just received on late blight, you may not want to give up room on cukes and squash. Lets just hope it doesn't spread like last year.

I'm hoping to get mine in the ground this weekend if the weather co-operates.

Camo, thanx for the recommendations. They are now in my 2011 file. I'll be researching all my candidates for next year around Thanksgiving...;-)
