There seems to be a bit of variation amoung the Moie-moie strain here in NZ,people who have seen mine have often say how that they look different to there's.
Can i put my hand up for a couple to try also ??

Hi Richard,

I agree, there are three types of Moie-moie around. I'll send you the other two that you don't have. One has bluish markings and the other one has maroon markings but your one has pinkish markings.

I should also send you a seed tuber of my humungous de-virused Huakaroro, the tubers are as big as a brick when normally virused ones are only ping-pong sized.
Huakaroro seems to conform to the descriptions pertaining to Solanum goniocalyx and looks exactly like Pitiquina potato when de-virused.

Thanks Cesarz for offering some moie-moie!

I apologize John Stewart...I was on vacations and just saw this post. The Moie-moie slip is still dormant. I stored it a month in the crisper with some soilless media. I added some water and once again put it in the light. Crossing fingers that it wakes up during the next month. I hope to harvest some of Mystery tubers grown from TPS this month so I offer one to you if you wish.

Hi Wendy,
My Moie-moie are also still dormant, that just shows you that these are long-storage types, while half of my potatoes are now one foot tall and the rest are now chitted and ready for planting. All three varieties of Moie-moie however are not budging even a bit.

That is great. If the slip doesn't break dormancy in few weeks then perhaps is better to store it again in the crisper until is proper for planting. I am worried that dries out even thou it still looks as Richard sent it.

When are you guys in NZ plant them outdoors? I just began to harvest potatoes in September and probably will continue until late October it looks. Most of the TPS seedlings including Mystery are still growing.

Moie-Moie is breaking dormancy. I noticed a swollen eye 2 days ago and today I looked closely and noticed that one of the 6 eyes is shooting roots. I hope to have pull plants to grow indoors in the winter under lights and have them die down with small tubers.

Your idea of placing the tuber in the crisper for 4 weeks works, maybe 6 weeks since it took the extra 2 weeks to awake. I was also getting worried but it does look as it arrived not a bit of dehydratation or softness. Will keep everybody updated as it grows.

Congratulations! I regretfully was only able to 3 of four OCA slips from Richard to start. I should have stored them for a bit before trying to get them to go, as I'm sure they would have been fine.......
