Hey Tom,

No the German Reds are still scapeless, which is a problem as we are leaving on vacation for two weeks. I'll have to ask my neighbor to pick them - he loves scapes. I have picked the scapes from over half of the other garlics and will finish scaping tomorrow before leaving. Everything is tied, mulched, fertilized, and in "grow mode"!

I have lived over the world as a kid, when I was 20yr I driving all around the towns, I love the west of Virginia really!! great to me. Only in Vermont it looks is like Virginia. I was 11yr old in Hampton, Virginia, before I was around the world.

That's fantastic, Tom- you're living your dream! I think VA is one of the most beautiful states. Enjoy your vacation- it'd be really hard for me to leave all that to go anywhere else.

I hate to leave, but since the vacation is in Ireland it won't feel very different. When we return I expect my tomato plants to be loaded with little babies!

Here are a few more pictures from our little slice of heaven, all taken from inside the house. Y'all are welcome to come visit - we love company!

Tom, I can well believe that you are loathe to leave your beautiful home and garden. What a work of art is your veggie patch! Good planning and execution, and enjoyable work went into it, I'd bet. Hope you enjoy your vacation, but suspect you won't mind at all when it is time to return home.

Lovely views, it will be a joy to look over those rolling hills every day ! And that is one serious fence! I defy any deer to leap over that. Please post more pictures as your garden matures.

Absolutely beautiful pictures. My wife would love that house with that wrap around porch. I bet you have to wake up every morning and pinch yourself to wonder if it's a dream.
I live in the country and the spray I make myself eliminates the need for a fence like yours. I'm surrounded by woods and fields with lots of deer and other critters. After using the spray for about 10 years the deer just walk by and don't even give the garden a second look. I do have neighbors who do have fences like yours.

I served 22 years in the military and spent half of those years stationed in England and Germany visiting many other countries while there. Three visits were to Ireland and if I could return to only one other country for the rest of my life it would be Ireland. It's a stunningly beautiful, laid back place and the Guinness is wonderful! I'm envious !
