Kelli, yes, some varieties of eggplant have spines and some don't, just like okra.

Hey all...I hope everyone's gardens are doing well! I just wanted tom update with the Black Cherry report. Verdict: totally worth the hype. Awesome sweet, but full tomato flavor. A definite re-grow! Below is a picture of that first Black Cherry, my garden "haul" from yesterday (including my first Kellogg's Breakfast!) and dinner last night which was a ricotta omelet with a cherry tomato vinaigrette. Cheers to all!

Picked some FaiyTale eggplant last night and some of my various basil types. Both went into some eggplant rotini. The FairyTale eggplants were extremely creamy and delicious!

Hello, Kelli. What is the average number of eggplants per plant? What is the source of the seeds?
thanks

Yes, I really love seeing what you DO with your tomatoes in terms of cooking/eating.

I usually just eat mine plain, or with a little salt and pepper. I may be about to the point where they eclipse even my appetite, though, and need to start getting a little creative.

Hey Ella, I don't know the average but I can tell you that each of my plants has at least 15 eggplants on it at any given time after they really get going! Last year i got my seed from Johnny's. This year I had an errant 4 legged animal (that shall remain nameless, mug shot below) get into my seed room and knock over and kill some eggplant and pepper seedlings. In desperation I ordered plants from Burpee's and so far they are exactly like the Fairytale I grew last year!

Thanks, Sjoella and Kathy! This weekend was definitely a good one. I harvested over 15 lbs from my garden which is a lot for my little plot! We made roasted tomato sauce and had our first ever Kellogg's Breakfast on BLTs. I have to say, it was definitely our favorite BLT so far this season!

What is the name of your "4 legged animal"? He/she does look cute.

Hey Ella, his name is Mac and he is 6 years old. He's still my baby, even if he does get into trouble sometimes...

This is my biggest offering so far this year. An "almost" 14 oz Neves Azoren Red. The good thing is, this plant is now loading up with some bigger brethren, so hopefully we will have some over the pound mark soon. Also pictured is some hash I made for dinner last night with some green zebra cherries and some sungolds.

Will do, Ella! I should be slicing into that big guy tonight

Over the weekend I had a huge harvest of 15 lbs of tomatoes. I brought in some Lemon Drop Peppers, Sweet Banana Peppers, and Garlic Chives as well. These along with some ground celery seed went into the Spicy Bloody Mary mix in the pic below. Everyone was raving about it at brunch the next morning! Cheers!
