Sharing a picture of some starts. A lot of peppers, some lettuce, broccoli, kale, celery, onions and micro dwarf tomatoes. Started regular dwarf tomatoes on Sunday and indeterminates will be sown this weekend!

Counted about two dozen set fruit on the Orange Pincchio plants with loads more flowers. I'm using a kids electric toothbrush I picked up on clearance from Target. Sowed all dwarfs on 3/20, which are now under the lights. Today we sowed the indeteminates, 17 varieties. Hope 2016 is a good one for all!!

The toothbrush seems to be working well as most flowers are setting fruits. Still no turning on the earliest tomatoes, hopefully in a week or two.

Look'n good. I think that you will be the first in the area with homegrown ripe tomatoes this year.

Well the first one has ripened. Me and my taster were both quite pleasantly surprised! Rich, sweet, nice bit of acid, a very nice tasting tomato! Another one is ripe and will eat soon, then the flush of fruits that set after those two initial fruits should start in a week or two. I'll save seeds. But wow I'm impressed for a winter/spring grown tomato grown in a south facing patio door in Wisconsin!

The peppers and tomatoes made their venture to the cold frame this past weekend. They'll live there for 2-3 weeks depending on the weather.

Well thank goodness, it's nice to know that you are starting some plants at the same time I am. I was getting an inferiority complex.

Well spring is officially here! Today we planted out just about all peppers, tomatoes, and tomatillos. Just a couple more dwarfs to go in buckets and 1 Mexico Midget will go into the regular garden. Lots of new to us varieties like always! Anyone else in southern WI planting out?

Everything looks great! You do realize that it's a bit early still. We will be dipping into the 30's this weekend. How are you planning on protecting all of these?

I usually plant out May 10-15 on my tomatoes. I've got a bunch of old blankets and towels and tarps. Currently Looks like I may need to cover Saturday night, but I'm hopeful things will change between now and then. I usually end up covering every 3 or 4 years.

Well I've had to cover before but that was for a cool night, which we have in store tonight. Around or just above freezing. What is unique for me is the week ended up rather cool and wet and the temps fell into the 40s Friday afternoon and will not crack 50 until Sunday. Here is what the garden looks like now--guess where the angry tomatoes are.

Temps here are going down to 30. I just came in to warm up from my first round of protecting my plants. I still need to go out and cover plenty more. It's a good thing that my tomatoes are sitting in their pots inside by the window but they are shaking their leaves with fear at the thought of being put out there.

I've got a wireless thermometer under one of the buckets. It will be interesting to see how it compares to the uncovered low temp (although that is at 6' on a pole next to the garden). I'll report back in the AM.

32.0F was the low at my house, same as the thermometer under a bucket. But I don't know how well calibrated the little remote one is. There was frost on grass and frost hardy plants. Under the buckets the tomatoes look to be doing pretty good. The Black Krim and Sungold look unhappy compared to all the others, but they got my 'worst' two buckets because I can replace those from a local greenhouse we get our flowers at if needed. I'm cautiously optimistic, I think by later today I'll know for sure.
