WOW! Nice plants. Lived in Miami my whole life and never tried a veggie garden. Looking at your garden and beautiful tomatoes I wish I had at least tried. At least I'm doing it in SC - delayed reaction, better late than never.
Thanks for sharing those wonderful pictures! |

Sorry, but I can't help posting more photos. Just got a new phone.
All my raised beds tomatoes are dead from diseases, my container tomatoes are still alive. Some of these container actually had too much coconut coir which suck up all the nutrients, I had to fertilize them. I also had to sprinkle diatomaceous earth underneath them to prevent ants from nesting. Only managed 4 fruits from the Black Beauty after 5 months of growing. They were sweet tasting with green juices inside. The last photo is a Solar Flare, for some reason it grew very fast. Last edited by maxjohnson; April 24, 2016 at 09:48 PM. |

So I cleared out all the tomatoes and beginning with summer crops. I've been occupied (money troubles) so I've haven't started too many plants.
Mainly I'm trying to grow as much yacon as possible (the large sunflower like leaves). Still have a couple tomatoes plants going. The first two are Copper River and Blush (the curved leaves almost seems like it's diseased, but I guess that's just how it look). The tree in the end is a 6months old transplanted ylang ylang broken in half by a falling tree branch from over the fence due to tree service, and then sprayed by some chemical when they were pressure washing the fence, but it's growing back. Everything looks so tasty! What pepper variety is that? It's gorgeous! Are the fruit also variegated?
Also, I love that you're growing asparagus here! How did you induce dormancy? Gonna have to give it a try for next year. |

It's Shu pepper, I only grow it for looks.
I don't know a lot about growing asparagus, these are from roots and over a year old. For the first year I just let everything go to leaves and not pick anything. Now I'm beginning to harvest them. I figure I'll harvest sparingly for a while, then leave them alone again until April next year. |

Found some heirloom tomatoes for $3.99/lb at Wholefoods today. I didn't get them, but fairly decent price compared to what they usually charge for organic beefsteak tomatoes. I guess they had to lower the price because most people don't comprehend tomatoes that aren't red and perfectly round.

I got nothing growing at the moment. Just in the process of laying down about half a ton of woodchips over the surface of my garden, a layer of ~3 inches thick. I thought my back was going to suffer, but they are pretty light and easy work with a pitchfork and wheelbarrow. Although you will have to wear a mask to avoid the moldy steam coming out. With the combination of leaves in the mix (nitrogen) and rain, it should break down a lot quick than regular dry chips, so I'm looking forward to next year. I will not be repairing the wood borders of the raised beds when they decompose. Also the higher the raised beds, the more watering they seem to need.

Sorry I don't have any tomatos pics.
Made another trellis today. Now I have about 10 trellises total, fully prepped for tomatoes growing. And 8 containers. That's going to be room for about 60 plants total. Everything is ready, only thing missing is the plants to put in now. Last edited by maxjohnson; November 25, 2016 at 06:32 PM. |
