Another Question:
In some Youtube videos I have seen them using some kind of tube, to hold the graft. Now , How do they remove that tube when the graft has taken ? Can you use things like clips ? similar to the ones used for holding orchids ?

They do have spring-loaded grafting clips that look a little like the clips used for orchids. I don't know if the orchid clips can be used. I think they might be a little big. Best, Adam |

Nice, I started some more rootstock seeds today so they are 10 days from my first Scion sowing as you mentioned Bill. I got a bunch of Big Beef seeds to practice with as well so I think the next few grafting trials will be using them. I hope you take some pics but I understand if you don't. Good luck! I'm still a week or 10 days from my first try.

Just went out on the porch to check my tomatoes and it looks like they grew a half inch or more today. Now if my arthritis will cooperate and not be too bad on the day when I need to start maybe I can do a container of them with some pictures. Bill |

That would be nice to show step by step in pictures or video.
Class is ready to watch and learn. After that you guys might want to hand out a pop quiz

That would be great Bill if you can. Just pictures would be helpful. Is side grafting easier? If it is, do you have to wait for a bigger stem size and still use a healing chamber?

I would love to see a video too!
Bill, I have been collecting your tips and mildly editing them into a "step-by-step guide" for my own use so that I don't miss anything. A "Materials & Methods" type outline. I'd be glad to send you a copy. (Note: I would never repost anyone's work without their permission. Anywhere. Anytime. Promise.) Jeff |

I have seen it in the youtube. They place scion and rt side by side and cut them at about 45 degree. so thecuts match perfectly.

BigVan you could actually graft at this stage if you have the double sized clips. As long as the grafting clips are not to heavy or have some type of support they actually recover faster than larger plants.
