I want to eventually take some monochrome pictures to share, but I keep forgetting. Being a grandFather has taken up too many brain cells

However, I want to share a picture that was taken back-in-the-day. Without the railroad - the town I was born in might not have been around?

Carolyn, may I use your picture as a desktop background? It's pretty and I like the detail.

Oh, you got me now. I am a train nut. My grandfather was an engineer and conductor on the Santa Fe, working out of Kansas.

Steam locomotives are living things. You got any more pics?

One is in color tonight. The other is of a train that special tracks were put down just to get it into the city park. There used to not be a fence and you could walk into the train.

Have you been to the Railroad museum up here in Wichita Falls? I think it is like 2 bucks to get in. Seems to be highly thought of by RR buffs. I also know some one with two old cars, matched numbers, one is a dining car, mostly there, and all the appliances there.

Thanks, Suzy. I'll check it out. There is (will be) a major RR museum here (in Frisco, which I remember as a crossroads with a feed store) that is not open yet. Long story my brother can get lots of tickets. They have a Big Boy! Can you imagine if someone could get one working?

Good vid but that's not a Big Boy. That's a 4-8-4 Northern.

Big Boy is a 4-8-8-4. I think four survive. Here's a soppy vid:

Last of the Giants, Pt 1:

Pt. 2:

As best I can tell, the largest running loco is UP 3985, a 4-6-6-4 Challenger.

BTW, Big Boy is the biggest in this hemisphere. There are (or were) larger in Africa - the giant Beyer-Garrets: 4-8-2 + 2-8-4.

Leaves , yes - but it would be awkward to pack them for shipping and probably expensive, too.

I like to ask before I use some one else' work, even as a screen saver or desktop. It's only polite to do so.

Thank you.
