Whiteflies, thrips and these guys were having a small party. I shut it down early this AM with delta-neem-daconil combo. Ran out of DE so time to order up again.

Any reqs on food grade DE?
I use food grade DE. I buy it in 50 lb bags for 23 bucks from our local feed store. They sell it for horses but it is certified organic and food grade. I have yet to find it cheaper. The stuff they sell at Home Depot or Lowe's is usually pool grade and has something other than DE in it. I called the Safer Brand DE and they told me not to use it on my plants for consumption.

Wow, thanks for sharing that info Heirloomtomaguy. I was under impression that it was safe.

Default fall-winter warriors

Things are going well, plants are responding well to the cooler evenings.

Chang Li, a towering plant that spreads and is strong and productive. And they are just like the Ten Huang Tan Shieh. Tasty paste like oblong cherries. Thanks C-R!

I'm glad you like Chang Li. I can also send you some Hssiao His Hung Shih, which is similar, but slightly larger fruit. It's meatier, but not quite as sweet.

Loving the pictures of the plants and tomatoes.
I look every time something comes up new but dont reply as much as I should.

'Yesterday I was looking for authentic German food and it was a waste of time to say the least.
Then I came across an article by chance that stated ten things you wont find in Mexico.
One of which was the flour tortilla.
Really!!!!
I have no idea where this guy was from but it wasn't Mexico.

Myopic articles litter the web. Flour tortillas are associated with Sonora, the border state with Arizona. The flour ones are large there, typically called "sobaqueras" on the belief that the "sobaco" or armpit imparts the finishing touch on flavor. Just a joke of course. When you desire a really large flour tortilla and you see them hard at work ask for a "tortilla de harina sobaquera" and you'll get a good laugh from everyone there.
In southern MX, maize is king.

My dad said the same thing about bread where the women held loaves under their arms.
I have had friends tell me about the big tortillas too.
The guy must have based his ideas on where he went in Mexico if he even went.

Default Chang Li and other goodies from midwest Santa

Yesterday I had a craving for some Chang Li, the 2 plants were loaded up, or so I thought. It seems my 14 m.o. nephew is also a big fan of these great yellow cherries.

Here's a few more stocking stuffers Santa sent my way.

These will play with already established plants of Trinidad M, Carolina R, 7PotBrainStrain, 7potYellow and Choc Hab.

I can manufacture some pretty good anti-whatever spray. Salsa of death is right around the corner....muahahahaha

Thanks again C_R!!!

We were living in sierra vista Arizona in 75. There were 2 towns called Nogales, one on each side of border. We would cross over and eat at place called "the caverns". The restaurant was literally in side of hill and the food was outstanding! Crossing back you were allowed one large bottle of alcohol each so we always had tequila for our sunrises!

I recognize some of those hot peppers, yes,I do.A couple of years ago Kurt in FL sent up a whole box of different ones, some pods, some seeds, and that b/c Freda wanted some to make the hottest salsa her son wanted as well as his friends wanted.

So what exactly would a spray be good for. Critters, microbes, stuff down your way that might never be found in the semi-tundra where I am in zone 5 or just the stuff found down your way.?

Just ONCE I ate a scorching one,and that by mistake,it was called Elephant Ears,a neighbor's son who was in India sent it back and while the pack was written in English it said nada about it being a hot pepper.

So stupid Carolyn took a huge bite out of one, then raced across the front lawn to the kitchen to get some milk and bread to stop the burning. A day to remember.

I love it when I see the hot peppers folks eating a brain dead one and enthusing over and spitting out comments such as

taste starts slowly
over tones of lemon
now over tones of oak
now complex overtones of grapes
now overtones of arsenic

Now I'm close to death so would someone please start a Go Fund Me to help with the funeral expenses.?

Carolyn

Same here. My father and friend were eating green peppers that looked like bell and making faces . I thought they were joking about how hot they were so I started munching away. They gave me milk and bread and I ran around the house for quite some time before I cooled off. Surprising how the heat just keeps coming back!

Mix half vinegar and half water to stop the burn. I once absentmindedly rubbed my eye after chopping chilis. An ER nurse gave me this tip and it works immediately.

Love the pictures, they look so green and lush. The bamboo adds a great contrast to the green of the plants.

You need to grow TALL Chang-li, that way your nephew gets the low ones, you maybe get the high ones.
