thank you for your bequeathal on tis thread: Moravsky div I saw Moravsky div never, but I think, that Moravsky div = Stupické sklenikové. Why? 1.The name Moravsky div was translated from russian name Моравское чудо (translated by Andrey according to lexikon). Czech person would be translated Moravský zázrak never (minimum for wrong diction of word „div“). 2.The answer to Digging dog farm „Dear Martin, yes it is simmilar variety.“- Moravoseed. This shows, that Moravoseed carries simmilar variety (Stupické skleníkové ?) to Belarus and Russia and Moravoseed agrees with marketing name Моравское чудо. Moravoseed cannot carry such seeds in EU for example in Estonia. Moravoseed has only two varieties of Stupices (Stupické polní rané and Stupické skleníkové). I disbelieve that Moravoseed cultivated some new variety only for Russian market ( besides EU). 3.Why new name? Tomato „Stupické skleníkové“ would not be so buyable as „Моравское чудо“ in Belarus and Russia. It is the same as „Stupice“ and „Stupické polní rané“ in USA. 4.Why this market? One packet (60 seeds) of „Stupické skleníkové“ in Czech republic…11,-Kč= 0,6 US dollar One packet „Моравское чудо“ in Russian 3600 roubles = 60,- Kč It is very good market. In 2014 y. I shall plant Stupické polní rané, Stupické skleníkové, Stupice and Moravský div and I shall see the contrasts or the deuces. Than I can write to Moravoseed to my contact Mr Růžička manager of commerce. Vladimír Last edited by MrBig46; December 5, 2013 at 06:01 AM. |

Vladimir,
Thank you for posting your thoughts about Moravsky Div. I also have some suspicions about Moravsky Div similarity to Stupice. Also, I will not be surprised about name change by Russian seed vendors. They like 'catchy' names, and „Моравское чудо“ is a catchy name in Russia, much more marketable than 'Stupice' or 'Stupicke'. There it is all about marketing (and profits), not about historical accuracy or proper attribution. I can do a long rant about variety names changes in Russia (some may say 'creative translations'), but this is a separate topic. We are guilty about the same here, but not to that extend as in Russia. (I hope! ) Tatiana

I think this was already discussed somewhere, but this is the link to a Russian website that clearly states that Моравское чудо = Stupice
http://semenaopt.com/%D0%A2%D0%BE%D0...D0%BE)/600664/ I know some folks mentioned seeing some differences between their Stupice and Movarsky Div, but this can also be attributed to a) different Stupice strains (i.e. Stupice vs. Stupické skleníkové, as an example), b) wrong seeds (always a possibility) Tatiana

Vladimir,
I am so looking forward to seeing the result of your project! I also plan to grow both Stupickes, and local Stupice strain, will repeat Moravsky Div for comparison. Will likely add Sláva Porýní and Radana. I already grew Žlutá kytice, it is a very interesting tomato. The others from your 2nd list I am not familiar with. All the best to you with your growouts in 2014! Tatiana

your currency exchange rate is a bit incorrect. The price of one packet (30 seeds) of Моравское чудо in Russia is about 10 Russian Roubles = 0.3 USD. 3600 is the price in Belarusian Roubles for 30 seeds (0.1 g) = 0.38 USD This variety is among most popular and widely distributed so it costs quite the same as in Czech Republic as I can see if we compare the same amount of seeds in a packet

On the first picture are Stupices from the left to the right: Stupice, Moravský Div, Stupické polní rané and Stupické skleníkové. They are the same by that time. I shall plant in these plants to the five litres (1,3 gal.US ?) buckets. On the second picture is our window in the bedroom (north- eastern).

I am really interested to see any differences you will find in the fruit between the Stupice/Moravsky varieties. Looking good! I am still two weeks from sowing tomato seeds, though I am about to sow peppers any day now.
