Are your tomatoes heirloom or other? I am selling only heirlooms and wholesaling to a upscale farmers market. I am selling slicers for $2.50#, salads for $3.00# & cherries for $3.50#. He is selling them for $4.50#. I did find some Cherokee Purple & Black Krim tomatoes at a different local market for $1.99#. I asked where they came from and she said Florida (I am in Virginia). I bought a few and they had very little taste, but were very juicy-not the cardboard type.

Heirloom and open pollinated types from Wild Boar Farms.

Just need to produce at this point. Everything else is worked out...other than getting boxes for packing/delivery. I'm leaning towards 10lb single layer boxes. How do you do it?

No help here. That's a new one to me. I've never heard of that for sale in all my years. You are on the cutting edge so you might have to start the trend and set a price for others to follow.

I saw one stand with them last Saturday. I didn't catch the price but I will look for them this Saturday.

10# boxes/single layer is the best way to do it. I get my boxes from a produce market and recycle them. I do not single layer them as the person I sell to just piles them in a basket anyway. I am careful not to put too many in one box though. I thought about buying boxes to pack them in, but it would drive my costs up quite a bit. Hard to purchase smaller quantities.

I am growing quite a few tomatoes from Wild Boar Farms myself:

Pink Boar
Cosmic Eclipse
Blue Cream Berries
Indigo Apple
Lucid Gem
Trenton's Tiger
Berkley Tie Die
Beauty King
Solar Flare
Indigo Blue Beauty

Restaurants love the appearance. Not all of these varieties have the best taste in my opinion though.

I am growing Dark Queen, Large Barred Boar, Black and Brown Boar, BTD, PBTD, Black Beauty, and Blue Chocolate.

Somehow we didn't overlap, lol.

So, do you weigh each box since they are all different amounts and then multiply by your price per pound?

Last year, I used a small digital scale and put a small bin on it and zeroed it out. I would then fill the bin with tomatoes, get a weight and then put in boxes. I would keep up with the weight of each bin and total it up for a total weight.

With about four times more tomato plants this year, I have to take a different approach. I found an old postal scale on Craiglist ($25) which will weigh up to 60#. I plan on weighing the box first and then filling with tomatoes and subtracting the weight of the box:

BigVV,
I have some of those radish pods too and they are so great but for me, it doesn't seem like it could be worth picking to sell.
There are other small fruits like this; currants, gooseberries and rose hips (wild) come to mind. I would have to sell at something like 50$/lb to make money.

Do you have an idea of how much time it takes to pick those pods? Maybe my old fingers are just slow...

Went to the river market again today. Tomatoes are still $3 a pound. Two people had them for 3.50. A small basket was $5 a piece for tomatoes. Small basket of blueberries were $7-8. No radish pods though this week.

The tomatoes were Big Dena. From a google search it's a commercial greenhouse variety.
