I will plant out my okra sprouts on Sunday, when this cold snap is gone.

How long will it take from plant out to first harvest ?

I have no idea it has been years since I grew okra.
A lot has to do with how fast it grows.
I grows at about the same rate and size as giant rag weed.

Minnie just got a good brushing and is laying on my chest telling me how much she enjoyed it and to stop typing and do it again.

Got the last of the dwarfage potted up to 10". At least 4 have tomatoes. Life is good.

Our orange cat is now a brown cat. He keeps rolling in the dirt. I put up two hummingbird feeders last week. The one beside the living room windows and one out in the garden.

I put up a feeder first year I was here. Nobody showed up. I might try it again.

What is it with cats and dirt? I have to cover the potting bucket (where dirt is prepared) to keep the little beast out of it.

It is how they dust for parasites like fleas even though they dont have any.
Smokey does it all the time.

As for the tomato plants they have started to green up from the pathetic light green things they were when I bought them.

I am also considering making a row of okra between my house and Arlen's in the small strip of soil we have between us.
Then in the fall I will put in a wire trellis for grape vines and irrigate it.

Speaking of Arlen she is doing fine had no idea her light was staying on all of the time and turned it off.

I told her it was shot, worn out and her son needed to replace it.
Some time ago another one of her cats had to be put down too, Baby Kitty.
Baby Kitty was old and fat and her and Misty a younger cat used to snuggle with each other.
She told me yesterday that she is now going on line and ordering her groceries at HEB and picking them up the next day.
This way she doesn't have to run all over the store to shop for things.
Plus this keeps her from having to ask or get up out of the cart to get things she cant.
This is a great service for folks like her that can hardly get around.

Many times I see these folks in the store just staring up at stuff they cannot reach.
I always ask if they need me to get them something.
" Oh yes, 'could you get me that can of green beans on the top shelf, thank you so much".
Think of this the next time you are in the store and see this.

I do the same for people at the stores. There have been several times when a woman will ask Jan, "Can I borrow your husband?" The first time it happened - it really caught both of us off guard. As I think of it, no man has ever asked me to reach for something on the top shelf. It must be a male pride thing.

As for what is going on today more okra plus the Armenian cucumbers coming up. And I have another big pile of cuttings and dead wood pruning at the street waiting for pick up by the brush collection truck.
The hummingbird bushes (Flame Acanthus) were due for their annual trimming.
They bloom better if they are cut back every year.

My next move is to plant the confounded cucumber seeds some place along with some old yellow squash seeds.

All of my okra has germinated/sprouted.
Tonight's low forecast 40F. Tomorrow night 46F. Then will go to 50s .
I'll plant them out on Monday.
I think we wont have anymore frost this year. I am sure 99%. Maybe 99.99%

You better hope so okra does not like anything close to freezing.
I was a little put out by the temps in the 40's here a couple of nights but all is well.

I just got ate up by fire ants again cleaning out a side bed.
Planted some orange tender sweet watermelon next to the okra and have no expectations of it doing well at all.
If it does the fruit will be suspended on the trellis some how.
I honestly dont think anything will do good for one reason or another.

One thing is for sure they wont do anything sitting in the house in a seed pack.

Dill is next then I have to light smoker for the brisket bacon experiment.

Off to the garden again.

I was out getting gardening tools up before the rain/hail comes Monday and Tuesday. I looked over and noticed our Black Beauty Squash is breaking ground. I planted Yellow Crookneck the same day 3' beside them, but they still look like three mounds of dirt.
