How many of you folks have tried Flamme (Juanne Flamme?)

And what do you think of it?

Really great for salads. Lots of smallish size fruit (but larger than cherry), and a tidy indeterminate plant. For me, had good vigor and disease tolerance. Taste is very assertive. Maybe too much so for fresh eating. I have never tried using them for cooking, but might be worth a try. Ditto for drying.

Assertive? Not sure what you mean? Not sweet?

When I grew Jaune Flamme (that's Yellow in French) I found the taste astringent or tart. Because I prefer my tomatoes to be sweet (with complexity). I will never grow it again. If you love tart 'maters you will love it .

It is good, very good production. We made a cross of it and Green Giant that is good too.

I will not speak for others, but I generally use assertive for very strong tasting tomatoes.

Usually its used in a negative sense, because the very strongest tasting varieties, to me, are usually the most tart, astringent, sour, muddy, even "hakarl-ish" in flavor.

Nuances of taste are difficult to describe, but for me assertive taste means "strong," (bordering on unpleasant to me) for fresh eating. YMMV. I don't believe that many folks would call JF "mild" in flavor.

I grow Jaunne Flamme every year to make oven dried tomatoes. Oven dried tomatoes usually become much sweeter when dried because the sugars get concentrated. Since Jaunne Flamme is a stronger tasting tomato than many others the drying balances the flavor and we love it. I also personally like it fresh as well. It is also the perfect size for slicing and drying.
From the list I have also grown Sun Gold which was excellent but like others I prefer Suncherry. Black Cherry varies each year depending on weather. Last few times was not great. Pink and Purple Bumblebee were good but not outstanding. Best one at the moment for me is Esterina which no one has mentioned - very sweet, rivals Sun Gold for us. Grow Blush every year as well for oven drying and salads but never really considered it a cherry since it is larger. Will grow Maglia Rosa as well this year for drying to add a red. My only attempt with Riesentraube was negative - bland but I have always wondered whether the plant I grew was a true one. From the list would choose Sun Gold as the best cherry but when I get a good Black Cherry (hasn’t been the case recently) it would be a close second.

I love the production and appearance of Jaunne Flamme and grow it every year, but the flavour is very mild, almost bland to my taste . We have mild coastal climate, I don’t get intense flavoured tomatoes。Blush has more flavour, and is more productive, and was the most vigorous of all my plants this past year— something I have not observed before, so outstanding that I took cuttings to preserve it over the winter in addition to seed saved. I also grew Sunglod every year but did not bother to harvest much due to the small size of the fruit and plant height, difficult to reach. So I would rank Blush the highest on my list.

What Linda said, had the exact same experience. Great production, beautiful fruit but the taste is a big 0. At least for our household, it was uber tart.

Finally used them in omelettes so that they don't get wasted

I think this may be related to how some tomatoes react to low electrical conductivity in the soil. Otherwise, I cannot explain that someone has a particular tomato very sweet and another very sour. It also happened to me at Karma Pink. I'm looking for a solution. Add potassium?

A couple years back I did a trial comparing the following SunGold varieties:

1. Sunsugar (hybrid; SS)
2. Sungold (hybrid; SG)
3. Ambrosia Gold (OP; AG)
4. Big SunGold Select (OP; BSS)

My ranking data was as follows:
A. Germination success: SS, SG, BSS, AG
B. Productivity: SS, AG, BSS, SG
C. Growth: BSS, SS, AG, SG
D. Flavor: AG, SS, SG, BSS
E. Brix: SS, SG, AG, BSS

You can read more about it at the end of the following thread: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/21...to-sun-gold-f1

In terms of other cherry varieties that were not mentioned here that I found noteworthy:

Matt's Wild Cherry (OP) - VERY PROLIFIC petite red cherries with good balanced flavor
Coyote Cherry (OP) - Wild petite variety found in Mexico. VERY PROLIFIC with decent taste
Gardeners Delight (OP) - Great larger size red cherry with a good balanced flavor. Production is very good. One of my favorites.

My very favorite is Dr. Carolyn's due to its complex taste (need to wait a little bit into the season for the flavor to really show up) and production.

I still haven't found any good video reviews of SunOrange. I'm trying out both SunOrange and Esterina (both sweet sungold like hybrids) which I ordered from Osborne Seeds (ordering both is $20 + shipping!!).
