Short and sweet winter project

Excited to be finding more GWR micros in the F3 growout. These from the Aztek cross. The larger of the two PL micro plants with the larger fruit has really very good flavour. The smaller is very tart.
This group sown mid April.
All of these have fruit larger than a cherry size and are fairly productive, some more than others. Looking forward to more ripe surprises soon.

That is a lovely color for GWR, KarenO. No problem to tell when those are ripe.

This one is very ripe, I was was away for a few days, and I was waiting for it to turn yellow like its sisters actually. On closer look today by jiminy it was not going to be another yellow but was in fact already quite ripe
I love early segregation, always fun and full of surprises good and bad.
This surprise is very, very good
A rare bird a potato leaf striped GWR micro that has salad sized tomatoes and tastes very good. Hopeful to repeat in the F4, thats a bunch of recessives that should be fixed so might not be difficult to stabilize except for the flavour part, always the most challenge.

F4 selections will be started after Christmas. Few F3 still kicking in the greenhouse, cut back and now rebloom this PL amber saladette micro for example doesn’t want to give up yet.
It’s been a great year, a number of really good prospects to go forward with from the F3 group. It’s easy to be choosy with a big growout in summer conditions to really see their potential for size and production.
Tiny micros are not my goal. Small dwarfs with great tasting tomatoes is the goal.
Bigger fruits are producing better flavour in some cases which is great and perhaps predictable as well.
One group of small non Rugose dwarfs is very interesting and exciting with a very good tasting selection in each of a gs red and a gs yellow cherry.
I’ll make new thread for those in January because they are very special and unusual.
All in all a very good year with several delicious gwr also to choose from which is very rare in a micro.

So am I so here is “ Sweet Baby Jade Bred by me, this cherry, sweet and tangy, Heading to F5 for Spring.

This Tasty selection discovered and grown by my good friend Teresa who kindly offered to help with the very large F2 growout needed to find something so rare.
Looking forward very much to starting several of my own F4 selections right after Christmas
Will feel great to put some seeds in some soil again!

Prioritizing my F4 selections to grow out starting soon indoors with plans to ripen in the greenhouse in March/ April
This pair will be first. Their large sized fruit and productiveness relative to the size of these 14” plants along with surprising flavour will hopefully remain in the F4. Goal is to stabilize them both as they are.
“Sliceable” sized baby beefsteaks resulting from interesting faciated yet symmetrical blossoms.
Every bloom on the plants display extra petals and sepals yet the fruit are not misshapen aside from Occasional extra Locule seen on blossom ends.
Quite interesting and unusual. I Noted these unusual blooms in the one yellow mini beef that was Best for flavour in my F2. This new matching green very similar, a seg in my F3 growout. Summer 2019.

Karen, that picture with the ripe fruit is really tempting! I hope this one works out the way you would like. It would be great to have a micro type with good tasting fruit. I did not like Aztek.

neither did I Dee. But you have to start somewhere lol.
This is better, I promise. Just need to keep it that way.. tricky part is 4 and 5 but so far so good.

Some beautiful fruit there KarenO. Love the looks of them. Growing Micros is not really my thing but I could make an exception for these!

Karen I am loving those awesome flowers! They are tremendous. How tall was that plant? It looks like it had quite a lot of fruit.

About 14”-16” Here’s an example.
Foliage is large relative to the overall size of the plants and potato leaf in this group. there were several sort of similar , my selection was the best tasting. I found there were significant differences in flavour even in fairly similar looking plants

Wow-yes indeed that foliage is large! The tomatoes are a nice size too. I hope your next generation keeps all of these favorable characteristics1
