Yea, I thought they should be bigger. I will try it next year with a different seed source. I grew it because of the glowing reports from those that had grown it...especially in the heat of the south. It just has to be better.

You should, it was great here. For me Tangerine was much better than Persimmion, which I liked a lot. Persimmon was more productive but Tangerine tomatoes were at least twice the size

My Soldacki plant really struggled but did produce lots of huge, tasty tomatoes. These might be even better on a healthy plant. I'll definitely try this one again next year.

I hadn't started this one at the beginning of the season but saw Grub's posts about how good it was. A few weeks later someone was selling heirloom tomato plants at the San Francisco garden show and she had Soldacki. Needless to say I grabbed one!

Of these three I’d have to say Simpson’s Summer Palace was the best by far; 7 out of 10. The other two were the first tomatoes off the plant so I’ll reserve judgment on them for now. I did think Grandfather Ashlock was much better than Daniels.

Hi Bruce,
Great pictures and reviews Bruce....keep them coming if that is possible given the extreme heat.

I have not had much luck with my Wes as it has one single nub of a fruit on it. Right beside it is German Red Strawberry which has three monster sized fruit on it...go figure, eh.

My fake Azoycha's were okay...rather tart in my opinion...nothing to write home about. I just ripped the plant out...the remaining fruit were severly deformed...and it was dying of some unknown problem. Next year I will have the real deal...

The taste of my Wes did improve a bit but Kosovo improved so much more and it’s still pumping out the tomatoes. Wes gave up the ghost. Are your plants still in the greenhouse or do you just start them there and plant outside?

Here’s Uncle Steve’s Italian Plum. It was in a container so the heat really got to it but it did produce some very good tomatoes early on. The tomatoes protected from the sun did very well. It made a nice thick pink sauce with very few seeds. Some tomatoes got quite large.


My other surprise was Brianna. A very productive plant with large, great tasting tomatoes. A little like Gogosha or Stump of the World. I’ll give this another go next year.
