Going into the finals, it is Brandywine Sudduth, Cherokee Green and
Marianna's Peace with Momotaro hybrid closing in on the pack. As they croses the wire, it is a four way photo finish!! We await the ruling. And, the winner is...............(trumpet fanfare)......Marianna's Peace. |

I really really like Green Zebra. It is tasty and productive. For flavor alone Stump of the World was amazing. I am hoping this year will be more productive. |

Right now it's between Cherokee Purple, Amish Paste, and German Johnson Pink. I grew all of those for the first time last year (along with eight others) and loved them!

Aunt Rubys German Green is amazing and has a wonderful flavor..My favorite green. Been growing it for the past ten years. Green Zebra is a spitter for me...Bland. Grew it for three years, in different areas of garden hoping to give it another chance to show some flavor.. |

Aunt Ruby's German Green is one of my favorite green-when-ripe tomatoes. I wish it was a bit earlier here in PNW!

My thanks to you then, Randy! I grew Purple Dog Creek the last couple of years and liked it too. It tasted great and the plants were real machines as well. It's on the list for this year too.

Looking back at my spreadsheet from last year the following below were the highest rated for taste. I rate the tomatoes I grow on a 0-5 rating scale with 0 being the worst and 5 being the best. I don't have a set group of criteria for rating, the tomatoes are rated relative to the flavor of all the tomatoes I am growing for the year. Their rating gets adjusted up and down with each tomato as the season progresses and by the end of the season I come up with a pretty good rating for flavor for the varieties I am growing. Hopefully that makes sense?
Choose any ONE from below and you'll be in good shape Cowlick's Brandywine - 4.9 (Seed Source:br33 -Bill R.) Sungold - 4.8 (Seed Source: Tomato Growers Supply) Stump of the World - 4.8 (Seed Source: Tomatofest) Brandywine (Heirloom/Queisenberry) - 4.8 (Seed Source: Tomatofest) Cherokee Chocolate - 4.7 (Seed Source: Tomatofest) Matt's Wild Cherry - 4.7 (Seed Source: Nolika (Iva) Cherokee Purple - 4.5 (Seed Source: Tomatofest) - This year trying CP seeds from Geckler Seedman |

Thanks so much for developing Purple Dog Creek! What was its parentage? It even beat my own Cowlick's Brandywine last year, to become my #1 ranked tomato. I've been working on a Dana's Dusky Rose/ Cowlick Brandywine cross for 3 years now that is also very good and seems to be pretty stable and will be ready for distribution soon. I call it DDRXBW-C or DDR2 for short. Its a pink tomato on a large regular leafed plant that produces fairly well although the tomatoes don't get quite as large as my Cowlicks usually do, they are slightly larger than the DDR usually get. I had sent seed to a friend in Canada last year and to a few people here in the states this year. Hopefully will be able to send out more after this gardening season. Again, Thanks for being the original seed source for Purple Dog Creek, and I thank Ginny once more for sending them my way to try last year! Enjoy! Camo |
