Tom,

Definitely a piece of heaven! Great looking crop. I wish I had your view and space to grow. And yeah, I think you'll need another freezer. LOL

Tom! OMG what breathtaking vistas, it looks like heaven on earth for sure. You are indeed, very blessed. I could look at those photos for hours and daydream......

And that garden of yours is HUGE! I have so many tomato plants squished into a small area, I would love to have that kind of space. Maybe someday.

Thanks for sharing all your photos. I would not garden in the nude myself, but frequently run outside in jammies very early morning to peek and see if anything is ripening.

Beautiful garden, Tom. Hope you enjoy it and the house.

We must have used the same house plans, i thought i was looking at my house when i saw the first pictures. Our master bedroom is on the left and we eliminated the wrap-around porch and added an attached garage on the right.
The dormers, windows and front porch posts and railings seem to be identical. The major difference is that your view is breathtaking while ours is okay if you like to live near water and neighbors.

There's nothing better than standing on the porch with a cup of coffee, listening to the silence (as my grandmother used to tell me to do) and then taking a slow tour through your garden.
For me.that's as close to heaven as i will get on this earth. I hope you have a long time to enjoy the tranquility of your new home and garden.

Hi Ken,

Here is a closer view of the house. Our master bedroom is upstairs on the right, and the garage is on the left. The 4th bedroom is above the garage. The garage was far too big for us (24' x 26'), so we just finished converting the front half of the garage into a family room with a view. The garden is off to the right of the house.

Hello TomNJ,

Love your garden! Reminds me of the time I spent in Italy with it's rolling hills and wineries. Have any updated pics of your progress this season?

Love the whole thing. What a great house, yard and garden. Now it is time for the perennial beds to feed and attract even more hummingbirds.

I do not know how you left this great place of yours, but hope that the trip to Ireland was special.

Well I have good news and bad news.

The good news is that almost every crop is doing great, even better than I ever expected! We are filling up our freezer with beans, broccoli, cauliflower, beets, turnips, spinach, and peppers. Also eating corn, potatoes, garlic & onions.

The bad news is the one crop I live for has been wiped out - looks like late blight has claimed all of my 60 tomato plants! At least I salvaged a couple of bushels before they completely bit the dust.
I will start another thread now on this and attach photos. Very ugly!

Very sorry to hear about your crop of tomatoes TomNJ...the pics you put up of them awhile ago looked amazing too. Your new garden set-up is one of my favorites that I've seen on tomatoville here. Like you said already, at least you got to enjoy some tomatoes before the blight hit, and you're still reaping a big harvest from your other crops. Here's to hoping your tomatoes do better the next time around.

Tom,

Sorry to hear about your tomato plants. Have you talked with any locals in your part of Virginia about the late blight? I'm curious if it just hit your garden or if it is moving through your part of the country. If it is moving through the area, it is probably hitting some other crops besides tomatoes.

I only have one neighbor growing tomatoes and his have not been hit, but I found a website with a map of confirmed cases of late blight in the USA and sure enough ours is the only county in Virginia marked. I reported my case to our local cooperative extension office today.
