It showed up 2011

i was laid up after a very minor surgery and decided to google the tomato cuz i hadnt been on any gardening forums in a bit, and was surprised to see people raving about it and trading like crazy, even saw a couple of websites selling the seeds!

I was laughing my butt off about the controversy on the name, i believe in this thread somewhere it was refferred to as sounding like a burlesque show you wouldnt wantnyour wife to catch you at?

Nope, nothin of the sort, just a wierd tomato named after a funny little heeler/aussie mutt

That was me that started that.

I'm growing it this year, thanks for sharing it with us all and what a wonderful way to carry on the memory of a loved pet! I think the story of a tomato can sometimes be the best part.

Blane thinks it might be pink Berkeley Tie Dye because it showed up in a patch of Green Zebras, but I grew them side by side, and they are definitely different.

Looking forward to growing it! I'm surprised no one has added it to Tatiana's Tomatobase yet. I'd love to see Girl Girl's sweet photo there as well (tho' I don't know what the policy is on posting photos of a tomato's namesake ).

I agree.

I've grown them side by side several times already and they are similar but definitely not the same. GGWT is overall larger in size and PBTD is more burgundy whereas GGWT is more orangish/reddish. PBTD is slightly more tart. Both are delicious and really productive.

Ginny

This picture has 4 PBTD and the rest of the striped are GGWT. The pinks are Rebel Yell.
