it's soon time for the spring mushrooms.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyromitra_esculenta

Very delicious, but needs proper pre-treatment to remove the toxins.

Much more fun to gather those varieties which do not need any parboiling... I used to recognize many and 'go mushrooming' when I was young, but these days, I haven't been so active. And the thought that most mushrooms are loved by various larvae just dampens the mood

We export lots of wild mushrooms to Italy and other southern countries (Boletus edulis mostly), but I wonder how well they keep on that journey, even if the transportation is kep cold.

Has anyone tried growing mushrooms with home-kits? Plenty of those available on-line, but I'm not sure if they work well. In Russia they even sell wild varieties that way, some just for decoration... !

You're definitely a prime example of hybrid vigor. Carolyn - a wonderful F1

Yes, yes!!! I want too a new thread about mushrooms. I love love love mushrooming Nothing relaxes me so much like mushrooming.
Next to our house there is a big grass field, and after a good rain it is full of mushrooms. We use to go to the wood too and pick a lot and freeze them.

Yes.. You're getting me excited to go mushrooming!. I went with my good friend Dan and his girlfriend to pick mushrooms in the country back in the early 70 s. It was one of the best days of my life. Totally carefree and so peaceful.. It was like being a child again. Dan knew which ones were ok to eat. He spent the last years of his life in Thailand. I miss him . Jimbo

Yesterday I found the new wild mushroom thread and I think it may have been Andrey who started,it looked like his pictures.

But today I couldn't find it.

So please tell me where to find it.

Thanks,

Carolyn
