Do you turn wood?
I dont know if it is lathe hacking or not.
But you made me think of something.
With the tubular ways and drill quill I can make this thing do far more than it was intended to do.
Like some pretty good grinding work.
What I dont want to do is permanently alter the parts that are on it and ruin them.

I got the idea for what I am doing when I saw the old art deco Yates lathe and how it was set up.
Where I worked at many years ago in a cabinet shop my boss bought a bigger Yates lathe for $25 at an auction.

It never dawned on me the style of the Shopsmith is art deco influenced.
The ugly contraption that someone put on it before me was horrible.

I case any of you are wondering about the CFL light bulbs in the window seal they used to be on the ceiling of the shop.
When I started working there I did not like the yellow color they put out so I replaced them with the 65 K CFL bulbs I used to start my pepper and tomato plants.
The bulbs in the window seal get put in other places in the house as they go out.
Just now two of them got put above my head where I sit in the kitchen

It seems as though I have been mistaken in the style and design if the old lathe and what I have been trying to accomplish.
All of my life people around me have described Streamline Moderne as Art Deco.
What I am doing and what the old lathe design is looks more to be Streamline Moderne.
Yes there is an e at the end.

It might even be a cross between the two.

Here is where I am at now, I wanted to stop and say it was good but I cant put myself to it yet.
But it is darn close.
Need to pick up a few items and put them away, we all get in a hurry from time to time.
I want to add, the one slot was already in the steel I wasn't about to cut it out.

Got some more parts in my de-rusting solution, which is vinegar with a goodly dollop of citric acid.
It works great for small parts.
Not exactly the perfect fits but they will do, 1 1/4 pipe and 1 inch pipe.
One inch slides into 1 1/4 and my 1 inch bar stock slides into the one inch.
If I want I can slide 3/4 into the one inch this way I will be able to use what I can find.
