A good BLT is one of the best things in the world! I prefer sourdough if I can get it, otherwise wheat bread. Toasted or not, it doesn't really matter, Miracle Whip (yes I'm one of THOSE people), spinach instead of lettuce, several slices of tomato, avocado if I have it, and bacon so crispy that it almost crumbles. I'm pretty much planning on living on BLTs this summer!
I also like a plain old tomato sandwich, just wheat bread, tomato slices, and Miracle Whip. Yum! |

Much as I love bacon, I'm one of those high blood fat people, so bacon is on my no-no list. As a consolation, anchovies.
I like a hearty, whole grain bread, with a heavy crust, toasted, fat slice of tomato, kosher salt, pepper, anchovies, and if I'm feeling naughty, mayo, but it's just as good sans mayo. This is one of my favorite lunches, or even dinner, when I'm batching it. Best eaten over the sink with a cold beer. |

Then use the olive oil mayo on your sandwich. Just a thought. No bad fats to speak of. Worth |

Never considered anchovies. I'll have to give it a try this year!

I'm simple
I really do like eating just plain tomato and mayo sandwiches all summer! People at work think I am nuts. Oh well. BLTs are great also!

Scott, I have to agree with you there! I always eat the first several ripe tomatoes straight from the garden. Only then do I venture on to other ways, like blt sandwiches. And of course our tomatoes give that blt a whole new meaning!

Had my first BLT of the summer today. "Crazy thick" cut hickory smoked bacon, thick slabs of Dr. Wyche's Yellow and Romaine lettuce on toasted "Ancient Grains" bread. Mayo on both sides of the sandwich!! Was almost weep-worthy!
Will have to test repeatability all weekend. Tomato variable maybe changed. Quote:
