I finished the Pepper entry form, and I added it into the menu under 'User Contributions'.
So if anyone wants to add a new pepper variety to TOMATObase, please help yourself with the form. It should simplify the job for folks who are not very fluent with wiki markup language (I only know a very few who are fluent ) Keep in mind that adding a new page requires Trusted User privileges - so if you do not have it, email me and I will grant the rights. I will be now working on a similar form for Tomatoes.

I also changed some report format to this:
http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/C...Early_Tomatoes I hope you'll find it more informative than a simple alphabetical list of varieties that we had before.

Tania,
That is looking great! Under the "Seed Availability" tab you might want to have a drop-down list for the available commercial vendors (to avoid insertion errors). At a minimum, explain which format to enter into the form (i.e. 'hts - new' or 'Heritage Tomato Seed' etc...) Since you now have the tools to enter this data automatically, you could probably eliminate this tab altogether. (except for late entries which will have to be entered manually *somehow*) Also, I don't understand the difference between the "Main Image" tab (with the "add another" option) and the Picture Gallery tab. Maybe a clarification, for when to use which form, would be helpful. Overall, this is a wonderful addition! Thank you! Steve |

I just tried to add a pepper named "Apelsin". I got the seed from Andrey. After what I though was a successful use of the form, I selected "Edit" and it gave me the Tomato "Apelsin"'s code. I aborted and sent you an email and then posted this.

The issue is that the wiki cannot have pages with the same name. So if there is a pepper variety with the same name as tomato, like in this particular case, the page needs to be named 'Apelsin (Pepper)'. Unfortunately there is no way around it, as the page names have to be unique. So it is not a form issue, it is a wiki 'rule' that we need to accept. I already had the issue with 'Red Velvet' and Rosalita (Lettuce) variety and Sugar Baby Watermelon, as their names are the same as tomato names. No worries, I rolled back all the changes to Apelsin page, so everything is good You can try again with 'Apelsin (Pepper)'

Steve, thank you! I am thinking that in the future there will be no need for vendors to manually add their entries, so I made the 'Seed Availability' vendor fields 'protected', so a regular user will not be able to edit it. This will also protect the section from any accidental mistakes made by users, and will help to preserve the vendor entries. The 'Main Image' is a one 'selected' picture that will appear on the right hand side, under the Info box. I am thinking about reserving this spot for my own picture that I would have added into my seed catalog (if I offer this variety). But I am not entirely sure about it yet (as it will be somewhat discriminatory for other members, and I do not want that!). So I made it 'protected' for now, until a decision is made on how to use it. You can now only add your pictures into the 'Gallery' section. I will also be converting the vendor entries into 'semantic properties', which means that there will be a very easy way for vendors to pull a query like 'Which new varieties did I offer in 2012?' , 'Which varieties were sold out for 2012?' etc.

Got it. My programming background served me well. I knew when it sent me to the "tomato" that something was amiss.
I'm learning how to "wiki".

Here is an example of a page that has both the 'Main Image' and the Gallery:

Nice badge. Reminds me of my military days. We used to call those metal badges and medals and stuff "Safety Pin Shrapnel" or "Targets".
I'm not quite comfortable using the form, but will keep trying it. I loaded up some Peppers and I think I've got them all to display on the main list and my member list. You might want to check out some of my entries if you have time. Oh, and "Apelsin (Pepper)" is in there now.
