I am in the same boat. For me, I grew 4 different varieties of tomatoes, and had no clue about saving seeds. I joined Tomatoville well after spring planting and cannot offer these really cool sounding varieties that other Tomatoville members can offer.

Like tomatoes, I'd like a wish list (a shorter one) of about 3 varieties from each of you, so I can post it along with the tomato list.

Gary
Garry, I really do not know what I would have liked tomatoes. Maybe some hearts (but Anna Russian, Wes, and Kosovo already I have). But I shall be content with anything. I just want the seeds from unpackaged flowers been so designated.

I only have a few seeds of the new Czech cherry varieties. These seeds are not yet on sale. I will send Datlo (3 packs with 5 seeds), Mini (1 p. with 5 s.), Bibi (2 p. 5 with s.), Valdo (2 p. 8 with s.). In addition these, I'll send commercial seeds Goldkrone (this year my tastiest cherry), Herodes (heart), Goldkrone (orange with pink meat), Lescukovo oranzove (large orange-familly heritage), Stupicke sklenikove and hybrid Start F1. From Italian tomatoes Costoluto Genovese (commercial seeds), Cuor di Bue (heart com.s.) Cuor di Bue type Albenga (pear- com.s.), Napoli (packaged flowers).
Vladimír
PS.: I don´t want to send seeds from unpackaged flowers (Datlo, Mini, Bibi) for further dissemination

Carolyn, it wasn't so much confusing to me last year, as too complicated. And I didn't care what categories I got back ( I like surprises) -- but then I found out that you don't have to just participate in the category section swap, but can just send in seeds as "unaffiliated" or bonuses. So I tried to send in a bunch of seeds from wish lists and some harder to come by varieties and let Gary sort it all out. I got back probably double what I sent in. And I really don't mind getting back a few varieties that I've already tried because I might have better luck with tomatoes from a new source for some I have not liked much previously. It was a fun experience, just like Heather's exchanges were.

Green

These...

Giant
Nonsweet

I'm thinking of simply dropping the Sweet and Nonsweet categories, and keeping the Giant and Novelty categories with the expectation you may only get back about 5 varieties of each, if that.

If there are types of tomatoes you do not wish to receive, like currants, or greens, or very early types, or anything else, it's best to let me know on your paper wish list/sending in list.

Gary

I planned to participate in the sweet category with my Orange Russian 117.
But if there is no such category, can I ask you for sweets in the bonus section?

Thanks Dee. I was really confused, but I think I am in the same boat as you last year. This seems really complicated to my simple mind.

Carolyn,

One part of the swap is very easy. Just go to the Wanted Varieties forum (same title as this thread) and post up to 15 tomato varieties (and 3 pepper varieties) that you might be looking for. If other participants in the swap have those seeds, they will be sending them in, and you'll be getting them back.

The "categories" are generally for people who trial a really lot of tomatoes, or a lot of one or more types. This part of the swap is optional.

I have started making my Wish list of 15 Cherry tomatoes. There are two varieties I would like to add that are hybrids (Dancing with Smurfs and Sun Gold). My question is: Is it alright to add a couple of Hybrids to my wish list?

Why wouldn't it be alright? You grow what you like

By the way, DWS is an OP - it should be stable by now.

That is about how I go too, find what I have from people wants lists, send some others I think should be great for growing...anybody can get as complicated as they want to be. I have done number of swaps with perennial seeds and it could get very time consuming but if one really into it I got some really cool stuff this way... This swap is fun!!!

Orange with pink meat isn´t Goldkrone, but Zlatava. I apologize for the error.

Dancing with Smurfs was the most popular "Blue" in the swap last year. I still may have a pack or two, left over.

Hybrids are perfectly OK to request. But, there are usually more requests than what comes in.

As for SunGold (the most requested hybrid last year), I'm thinking about possibly making a bulk purchase of a few hundred seeds if I can find a source that will deliver by December. Last year, several people donated (I'm not saying how much) beyond postage costs to the swap. This money was pooled to make a purchase of seeds from one of Tomatoville's members that has a seed biz. Maybe this can be done with SunGold wish listers.

I guess I'll have to keep the sweet category.
