I'm no scholar.
I figure James Strong (1822-1894) had a hand in naming it. While researching his Concordance, I look at the number before, and the number after, the number I'm looking for. So, 2588 and 2590 (Greek) were those numbers, when I was looking for 2589. |

I'm a fairly new gardener but I've planted Black Cherry, Sungold F1, Cherokee Purple, and Brandywine every year (well since I started in 2012) because they're my favorites!
This year I'll be planting - Sungold F1 (returning) - a couple of the OP versions of Sungold out there (new, haven't decided exactly yet which ones to look for) - Black Cherry from TGS (returning) - Cherokee Purple (didn't germinate in 2015, will get new seeds and try again in 2016!) and since I'm DETERMINED to find a Brandywine-esque tomato for my garden that is also productive: - Cowlick's Brandywine (new) - Sudduth's Brandywine (new) - Pruden's Purple (tried in 2015, squirrels have gotten anything close to ripe so far) - Marianna's Peace (new) - Aunt Ginny's Purple (tried in 2015 but accidentally gave away all the seedlings) - Stump of the World (new) - Brandy Boy F1 (new) I'll also be looking for any potato leaf versions of these to trial next to the regular leaf. I love potato leaf plants, they seem indestructible in my garden, plus I think they're prettier That's it for definites. I'm still figuring out my earlies and cherries (I really want to try the Artisan tomatoes!), I also want to try some different colors, oxhearts and Italian ones for canning, and some dwarfs too. I'm in a bit of a different predicament than most people as I have to rotate varieties around so not many are on the must grow every year list.
So my must grow are: Stump of the World, my favorite beefsteak ever Santa Maria, a wonderful paste Sungold, always have a plant every year New to me varieties (off the top of my head) I grew this year worthy of coming back in rotation: Lemon Drop, great sweet tart flavor cherry, vigorous plants Sweet Aperitif, very sweet cherry, super productive Gary'O Sena, tasty black beefsteak, was earliest big tomato this year Purple Dog Creek, excellent flavor beefsteak Marge's Polish Pride, lots of large fat beefsteaks, very productive in not the best year

At the moment the verdict is still not in as our growing season had just started but from this thread I'll definitely be trying black cherry and sungold and quite possibly big beef as well.

Ramy, you would like Blackberry. The best ever tasting black tomato. Consistently excellent taste. Got my seeds from Marsha. Has beautiful shape too.
