Possum along with many other wild critters used to be eaten by many people in the US and not just certain people but almost everyone rich and poor.

Maybe we have gotten to the point most people dont want to think they are eating a critter and it has to look like a Big Mac before they will eat it.

Some people wont even eat chicken on a bone anymore.
It has to be a golden fried nugget that came out of an extruder.

Fast-food is often crud, cruelty, and pollution, so my post was only partly in jest.

I've not yet tried a possum, but I did skin a fairly fresh, road-killed juvenile a while back for fly-tying material, and the meat looked clean, white, and appealing, much like rabbit.

both rabbit and possum get tricanela (meat worms) really bad so it is best to eat after a good frost.

That's why I wont touch them here where I live it doesn't get cold enough.

I had an extended family member that would trap possum, feed them out for a month or two and eat them. He lived in a rural area, so little chance of problems.

He swore up and down that it was some of the sweetest meat you could ever eat.

It is good I used to eat it many moons ago.
Armadillo is on the top of the list as far as good eats.
The last time I shot armadillo was a 3 shot 3 armadillo kill thing in about 10 seconds or less with a pump shotgun.
In about a week with all of the other critters I shot my beloved late brother and I had a big wild game BBQ and catfish fry.

Well there is but----I aw heck what the hoot.
Here is the rest of the story.
My brother had about 40 acres of land and I would get in the back of the pickup and he would drive and hand me shotgun shells.
Sometimes this would be at night chasing out across the oat field.
He would take off after something and I would shoot standing in the back of the truck.
Shooting over the top of the truck and holding on to keep from getting tossed out.
He would sometimes hand me slugs as a joke as they kick like all get out.
So the BBQ.
We told everyone the armadillo was rabbit and they said it was the best rabbit they had ever had.
The rabbit we said was armadillo.
My sister in law caught on after the meal.
Now tell me you two which one was the armadillo.
My brother was 19 years older than me and we were like two peas in a pod.
God we had a lot of fun together.
