You have to pick them when they are small. The darn things will get the size of a dish if you let them. The one garden I had at another persons place. That person was greedy and let all of my squash get huge and it was horrible. Quote:

The okra is just starting to show signs of true leaves and I am on a snail killing spree.
We got an inch and one half of rain. I want the sun to come out and run them back into whatever hell hole they came out of. Worth |

A few okra plants are up today out in the garden. None are in the raised bed yet.

My okra are still in cot leave stage, that is how I transplanted them from pot to ground, Even the I noticed long tap roots. On the squash thing a lot of people think that bigger is better

Today's warm weather bas just about put the okra in overdrive. At this point in time I see no need for fertilizer in the bed I didn't fertilize. It is my control bed. I have three beds and will explain them later. Worth |

The one year I grew okra transplants I had 4 people sized plants with no fruit. Never fertilized it, lesson learned.

Still none in the raised bed. The soil temp is 70 in that bed with lots of sun.

I like the scallop squash- usually grow the yellow ones and pick them at about 2 inches across, young and tender.

The weather has been good, sunny highs reaching mid 80F and lows above 49F. My previous bean seeds never came up. I think they rotted. So yesterday I planted some more between the corns. BTW, the corns doing good. I think I am pretty much done w/ planting, except my 4 tobacco seedlings.

Never had the yellow squash.
Never had okra not bloom. I think you guys temperatures are a little cooler than mine. I said I noticed true leaves about to come out not that they have big true leaves or anything. One bed is heavily fertilized one has had peat mixed in from awhile back and one nothing. Okra is supposed to tolerate more on the alkali side and I want to see if there is any difference. Right now I am in a race with the snails and slugs. |

Worth, what is your ground temperature? In the raised beds, ours is 70 degrees. I found this online -
'Okra seeds take 27 to 30 days to germinate in soil at 65 F. If the soil is 75 F, germination time is cut in half. You can speed up germination by soaking the seeds in cool water for 12 hours before planting.' If the above is true - That would explain why my okra hasn't come up yet. |

I have an extra one. I'll PM it to you. We bought ours at HEB (Chefstyle)
It doesn't help that the recent rains were very cold ones. |
