Through the replies today, I've compiled stats. When people gave ranges I took the upper end since we're all crazy. I only used data for plants people will grow, not how many they will start. Enjoy the snapshot of TVillians craziness.

Median: 50
Mean: 126.9 (the 2700 plants response skews this a bit), without the mean is 91.6
Max: 2700 (900 next largest)
Min: 3

All replies over 300 are grouped into the last bin.

I's like to grow 2700, but this year so far I've only got space for about 10....though I'm always looking for more places to grow. And now TV is supporting my bad habit

Ooh, Debbie, you can grow them:
1. in pots
2. in your neighbor's yard (best to get permission)
3. at your parent's /sibling's /kid's place
4. at a community garden, for a fee

The possibilities are only limited by your imagination!

Not final answer.

Number of plants 30. It depends if I can have the heart to compost the extras. Lol

Pretty sure now that I will have 29 plants. Cause that is my limit in terms of space. 24 will be in ground and 5 in container.FINAL ANSWER !

I would have more pots up on the flat roof of the garage if only there were stairs!

Coastal, I see a new pair of stairs, or at least a good ladder, in your future! Feed that addiction!

BlackBear recently coined the term "lastminuteitis" which describes it all.

Default Suburban back yard

For the burbs, I have a fairly large back yard, but still room for only 8 plants. Over the years the trees have grown and made many areas too shady. And I like to have an herb area and a hummingbird/butterfly garden.

Donna, zone 9

P.S. I posted before I read the "instructions," so I failed the test.

Ella, do you keep the "self-seeded" volunteers?

I have them growing along the fence. I toss tomatoes that were sampled by squirrels and such, plus any fallen due to the wind and badly cracked. I only do that with varieties I like and would want an extra plant. I am usually planting one plant per variety. I toss cherries into my flower bed for the same reason.
These volunteers sometimes are amongst the last tomatoes that are producing in my garden. They start much later and are loaded in October. I pick them green.
