I should of said pre-cook using my cold water cooking method for potatoes.
Not pre-boil. How on earth do you pre-boil something. Worth Last edited by Worth1; July 30, 2017 at 11:01 AM. |

A little slow cold front is meandering through, so we only hit the higher 90's today. Also will stay that way for a few days, maybe. Nice, but how odd to add "only", LOL.
The nice folks who cleared so much of my backyard of all the junk and brush, chinese stink trees and all the babies, had it better today. I can see ALL of my driveway now, and stand at the back door and see the back gates clearly!!! They were so nice. |

Woke up to rain yesterday and went to bed with it last night. It rained steady to light all day long. I fear this will further my foliage problems on both tomatoes and peppers. This has definitely been the rainiest it has been in mid summer in a very long time. Last year we rarely got a sprinkle from June through October so it is good to have that drought recovery but it is really hard on the few things still growing in these steamy conditions. The forecast is for only a slight chance of rain for the next few days so that is promising.

Hope things pick up for you Bill.
81 degrees and 84% humidity, half hour ago it was 80 degrees and 88% humidity. Another one of those scorcher 105-09 heat index days. Found a cicada in my garden this morning.

Sitting on the patio at 8am shirtless. Temp is 67f with humidity at 73 and a 5mph breeze. Feels wonderful. Birds are singing like crazy.
Anyone else enjoying this break in the heat? |

Wish we . had the heat! First time all summer that we have had two full days of sun. It's been one of the rainiest summers ever with temps all over the place. Right now its about 70 degrees at 9:30 am with low humidity. Apparently we might even have about 5 days of sun, with increasing humidity. First time I have not had one cucumber at this point of the summer. Now the squirrel wars are on.

We are having up to 2 inches of rain, started last night and continuing to midnight tonight. Much cooler day too, with a high close to 60 F. Luckily yesterday I had a chance to clean up my outdoor tomatoes, which I've been neglecting for the most part just letting them grow some "outdoor foliage" after leaving the greenhouse. Had to take off a fair bit of nasty leaf which I know would only get worse in the rain and spread to stems, fruit etc. There'll be new issues the day after, but at least I minimized the neglect effect.
@Worth and Salt. Too bad about even the water being hot! The only warm water I ever get from the cold water tap is the bit that's in a hose lying out in the sun - and that is hot enough to wash your dishes or scald a plant. As soon as that's run out it's ice water again. No joke the deep well water is always really cold here running from the tap. No need for ice cubes. It's a challenge the tomatoes have to get used to especially in the early spring... water is gonna chill your roots every time. Unless I cheat and use heated water, but that's only for very special, life or death kinda occasions. |

At 4pm 7-30-2017 it's only 92F at DFW Airport. What a difference! Yesterday it got to 102 at our house around 5pm.

In the 90's, but I am making chicken stock. No room in the freezer for a carcass.

Cooled of here a bit with the winds coming from Northeast.
Last night's low was 59F. Today's forecast is 89F for the high and very low RH of about 45%. But come Thursday, winds will be coming from SSW, SW . Still the highs will be around 90F. The good thing is that days are getting shorter and the Sun altitude lower..

Funnel cloud warnings here on the coast today. It's 96 degrees and 46% humidity out there now. The sun is hiding behind a few clouds but still very hot out there. When I went out to water this morning it had sprinkled some, enough to cool things down a bit. We have no heat index warnings today.
