I believe my Benevento F1's may be Rainbow Jazz Hearts instead. Either way, good tomatoes and really producing now.

@Fred, any chance you can look at this and confirm? These look more like the pictures of Rainbow Jazz Heart than Benevento, but I know they are supposed to be Benevento

Yes indeed! Good eye.

We have had a real problem with "contamination" of our Benevento seed lot from last year, with Rainbow Jazz Heart. As high as 50% in some cases.

In our field it is about 20%

For this reason Benevento seed is currently discounted, until we fix the problem.

Fortunately, RJH is a nice tomato and some folks are happy to have gotten it in their seed packets. But surely not everyone is as thrilled.

Don't get me wrong Fred, I'm extremely happy with the RJH, just disappointed a bit that I'll have to wait until next year to actually try Benevento lol. As luck would have it, I ended up with 100% RJH and 0% Benevento from what I started.

How many RJH do you have. You seem to be one of the unlucky ones!!

I had started 4 of each RJH and Benevento. Went to the garden with 2 of each, and gave the other 2 of each away. As luck had it, I ended up with 4 RJH

I have one of each this year; I also gave my daughter one of each, but she ran short of room, and only planted the Ben. The neighbor got the RJH, (that neighbor is sorta "conservative", preferring red globes...so we'll see what comes of it)

Mine were as advertised, as are their Minneapolis siblings. RJH is a little sooner to ripen here.

I think I have Benevento, but can someone post photos of Benevento and RJH side by side? Whatever I have is the only large tomato that has ripened so far, and it tastes great!

That looks like a RJH, alongside the wonderful Marzano Fire. I've got both this year, and have been more than impressed!

It’s easy to tell them apart. Rainbow jazz heart is a bicolour tomato and Benevento is a dark solid watermelon pink- red inside.

Here I thought I was growing Benevento.

What I have is a fairly average beefsteak, up to about 18 oz. Not a heart with the seeds in the top

Here's one in a jar:

Doesn't matter. I'm enjoying the other ripe one in an al fresco sauce over pasta tonight.

I am growing Benevento and Amalfi now. Is there any way to tell if I have Benevento vs Rainbow Jazz Heart until the tomatoes are ripe. Not fully grown, but they have stripes.

As young plants, the Amalfi were much more robust. Both are robust now.

I have 3 of each and have gone through 2 hurricanes with them. With Ian they were small and brought into the house. With Nicole, they were huge plants and I brought as many as I could into the garage or on my porch. 2 of the Beneventos were left outside but wrapped in shade cloth and survived the storm which made landfall about 30 miles south of me.

Updating - My 3 Benevento plants ended up being Rainbow Jazz Hearts. Very deep splitting at the stem way before ripening. Also Very late.

OTOH, The Amalfi tomatoes was a great producer with pretty flawless tomatoes.

We had a cold snap on the 23rd and 24th with not much relief during the day, 35 and 33 lows. Neither plant handled the cold well at all.

This season went thru 2 hurricanes and the coldest 2 nights since I have been gardening. Back to the mid 70s.

Guess I was lucky as I kept two seedlings, one was Benevento and the other Rainbow Jazz Heart. I thought that Benevento was very tasty when cooked .
