i emptahize with all of you pnw.ers i got my tomatoes peppers and sqaushes 3 weeks later because of a very rainy june and waiting for ground to dry and we have short growing season in centrl ny... Finally we have sunny skies and i send my best wishes and prayers that it will come to ll of you very soon and i tend to think that palnts have a sense maybe something physiological and they will tend to catch up for the time lost somewhat so good lluck to all of you and hoping the second round of tghe season is great for all of you

Today our high was 60º when the sun came out for an hour.
It was 53º for the fireworks, and misty tonight. Brrrrrr.
So this is the forecast:

Tonight 50 °F Rain Showers 20% chance of precipitation
Tomorrow 64 °F Partly Cloudy
Tomorrow Night 50 °F Partly Cloudy
Thursday 70 | 50 °F Clear
Friday 72 | 54 ° Partly Cloudy
Saturday 75 | 57 °F Clear

As usual, summer drags in just after the Fourth. If only we could have fireworks on Memorial Day, maybe we could get warmer weather sooner?

I do have a couple of fruit set. A couple on a
Bear Claw x ? F? that was the first plant to set
a fruit, and a couple on Nile River Egyptian, which
was the second plant to set a fruit. (If there are
any others, they are still BB sized.)

We have two weeks of sun forecast..do I believe it.. mm..no but I feel well enough to venture over to the gardens today and see what the flooded areas are like. I have not been able to go for a while.

Could summer finally be coming? Is it too late?

If you are like me you may think the rain is permament ..almost.

Jeannine, how is your garden - did you manage to go there? It got sunny here in Anmore in the afternoon, and it got warm (20C), yay! I spent a couple of hours in the garden, weeding and planting, until my feet refused to walk, so I must rest now. I have to admit, it was almost surreal to see the bright sunshine today. I felt I was dreaming

My phone is OK - did you call the new number?

Hi Tania, no we didn't get there. I decided to do grocery shopping instead. Usually I combine both trips but have not been so good recently. We are going tomorrow.

I heard today that they are removing the sand bags from Colony Farm road as the flood danger is passed. It didn't flood but it is apparently still very squishy underfoot.

I managed to get there about 10 or 12 days ago , just for a few minutes and it was better than I expected then. John has been since to water in the greenhouse but didn't go to the plots.

New number? That explains things.. I don't have a new number.

Oh boy I hope this forecasted weather is going to be right,do you think there is any hope for us still. I guess if we get a long enough time ..maybe.

I am already thinking about next year.

Sorry I didn't pick up the toms, I just couldn't get out there.

Another very sunny day here - and it is warmer. Looks like we finally got summer! The bad news is I found 1 potato plant with late blight damage. I pulled it and hope the infection will not spread - as long as we do not get any rain the next couple of weeks! I have my fingers and toes crossed.

Tomatoes in the pots are still showing signs of stress, hopefully they'll recover soon, when the soil dries up a bit.

No bees around, so my cucumbers are blooming but no fruit set. I will have to start pollinating them myself. I hope bees will return soon.

Looks like they've got the weather forecast right this time

I guess this thread was quiet because many of us PNWers rushed outside to enjoy the sun and the warmth, and I cannot blame you

It is amazing how quickly things started to grow after they recovered from the shock of the weather change! Cucumbers are swelling, peas and broccoli are ready to pick, garlic scapes are coming strong. On not so exciting side, many lettuces started to bolt, with an exception of my compact oakleaf varieties - Galisse and Bughatti which are still beautiful and tasty.

Potatoes are large and rich in flavor. I think the cold and rain helped to develop the deep flavor and size. Yum and triple Yum!

All I am missing is the ripe tomatoes. Sigh. But I got fruit set on 77 tomato varieties (out of 243 varieties). So there is some hope there, I hope!

I think I mentioned this somewhere some time ago that I have been diligently recording daily actual temperatures, high and low, since 2006. And what is most interesting is that we seem to be 'catching up' with growing degrees. We are still 72 GD behind of 2009 and 149 GD behind of 2006 (the best year on my record), but we are already ahead of 2008, 2010, and 2011! As of today, we are 74 GD higher than 2011, and our warm season just started. So the things are starting to look up.

when did you plant your potatoes? Have the tops died down yet? It seems to be the year of the potato - those at the community garden where I volunteer are just amazing ...

and good to see someone following the GDD ........ what site are you using - I seem to have misplaced the link to the one I used previously - if we break even with 2009 I will be one happy camper

D., I am using a basic formula to calculate GDD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Growing-degree_day). 2009 was a very good year - I'd be happy even if we do not get there but there is no late blight in July or August.

Your potato pics look gorgeous! Mine are still growing, no foliage dying down yet, but it is turning a bit yellow, so it'll get there soon.
