I will never, EVER grow another tomato that's name starts with the two words "Sub-Arctic". Bland and overly disease prone!!! Kellogg's Breakfast stank the joint out this year but only because it grew 100' tall and produced no tomatoes. No, I did not hit is with too much nitrogen. Just weird results. I will try it again now that I have moved to PEI as the results will likely be different in the beautiful red soil here. Pete

...yes, I was exaggerating about 100' tall. But 10' it definitely his and that was growing in a 5 gallon self watering container!!!

I have hit tomato plants with so much nitrogen the leaves burned and still had a bumper crop.

Ah yes, the notorious Sub-Arctic!! Blech. Wasn't even early for us...

kellogg's bfast enjoys the cooler weather. It struggled all summer long and just this last month it got lush, pretty, and of course, with 2 tomatoes. I know I shouldn't have, still, I enjoyed going at it with my machete.

My only real spitter for 2015 was Harless Creek Gold. They described it as softball sized, and it was indeed softball sized and just as hard. A testosterone filled early teenager with window breaking proclivities would love these....and that's not an admission of guilt.

Interesting. I have Harless for the first time. I will limit it to just one plant. I also have Sweet Ozark Orange, which seems to get better reviews.

I grew them both last season. SOO is by far superior on all fronts. HCG is also on the late side, ok yields, just too firm for my tastes.

I used to grow Sub Arctic Maxi in Michigan. I started the seeds in Feb and put the plants out in April under walls of water in a tall terra cotta vehicle. I got the earliest tomatoes ever. When the weather got warm enough to make real tomatoes, I pulled them up and threw them out.

I think that if one is looking for an early red (compact) tomato, Aurora does nicely - also Stupice, or Sophie's Choice. Anything but SubArctic. (Of course SAP is much better when cooked..)

If they switched the word 'arctic' for 'par' it would make more sense. Sub par. Not early. Tasteless. Killed by the blight in under 14 seconds! OK, I may be exaggerating a bit but not a lot, lol!

Black Cherry is my most reliable early. I sun dried some using BrokenBar's method of soaking them in a cheap red wine, sprinkling with a little seasoning and then dehydrating them. I made 5 bags and was in heaven until the 3rd day. That was when my grown kids found and devoured them!!! Waaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!! :'-(
