Adding to my Summer Heat Garden. Today I planted a 13' row of Sylvetta Arugula and 2 5' rows of Midnight Red Amaranth.
It appears that every Pinkeye Purple Hull Cowpea has germinated and they are looking quite healthy. Quite a bit of the Astro Arugula is up but don't seem to be doing much as of yet. Some of the Tatsoi has germinated but the process is quite slow.
Oh, and I did succumb to temptation and planted 3 cups with Skyway 687 F1 heat set tomato seeds and 3 cups with Tycoon F1 heat set tomato seeds.
Compared to my other currest passtime of painting the garage this is enjoyable.

Larry, 3 things like the heat and sun, Swiss Chard, Okra, and sunflowers. If you eat the sunflower nuts, you have beauty and food.
Tomato Growers Supply has a few whitefly resistant varieties, to avoid TYLCV.

I was unaware that Swiss Chard did well in the heat, not a lot of leafy vegetables appear to do so. I have a few Okra plants. Next summer I plan to grow much more Okra. I may even give sun flowers a try again, I haven't done very well with them in the past.

Not much happening in the garden right now, I've have some rough time in my last past few months so I haven't been too involved. The leafy greens I have outside that are doing well in the heat are malabar spinach, egyptian spinach (my favorite greens and lettuce alternative), and arugula. I have french sorrel but they are too sour.

I have some Ambrosia Orange UBX in nematode soil raised beds, and Sungold in container with Dr. Earth potting mix and fertilizers. There haven't been too much whiteflies this summer although I've been keeping them off the tomatoes with neem oil, but I am more afraid of some brown rot that's been killing my tomatoes earlier.

My ylang ylang is growing very fast now.

Max, that spinach is beautiful and healthy looking. I haven't seen a huge whitefly problem this whole year. I think predators in the Florida area have finally found out they are good to eat.

Wow, french sorrel. It is great in summer chicken soup.
It can be vegetarian stile too.
Just add cubed potatoes and carrots to a boiling bullion/water. At the last moment add parsley, celery, sorrel and previously boiled and cubed egg. Salt, black pepper by the taste preference.
Served hot or cold with a dash of sour cream.

I started my tomato seeds yesterday. Since it gets colder in this part of the state I like to get them planted out by the 1st of September. If this year is the same as last I could plant later but prior years we have had more cold.

Bunnyhop Seeds is offering some very interesting micro and basket tomato seeds. I like to grow micro tomatoes so that I at least have some tomatoes when it is cold. In the past the ones I have grown were barely a step above what you could get Publix. Ellie lives in Milton Florida so she knows what works in our climate and she gives very candid descriptions of the tomatoes. My friends will all be getting micro tomatoes for Christmas and I know they like the variety this time.

Peppers are doing great; The marconi peppers are definitely a little smaller than early in the spring; I think it could be more heat related b/c I had some old plants that produced very large peppers several months ago.
