Water bath wont do you any good for fresh produce that is low acid.

Scissor tail flycatchers have returned and mesquite are starting to put out leaves, so no more frosts! Hopefully!

Save some mesquite beans and allow them to dry. After drying, pulverize them and make some cookies with them. They are 30 percent sugar.

What about hummingbirds, anybody seen hummingbirds?. It hasn't barely dipped into the 40's here since Dwayne said go. Tomatoes have really responded. The biggest of the starts I put out on the 15th really has put on 2 ft in 4 weeks.

I am making some hummingbird food today. Yesterday, I was watering in some seed when this mini-helicopter sounding buzzzzz approached. I didn't see it, but yeah, a hummingbird. They're as bad as the cats...feed me - feed me - feed me.

Who did your soil test and how did you like the service?

The county Ag extension office sent me the standard report application, and had the tomato patch soil tested. Later I found this Urban and Homeowner version

After nearly a decade of belt and suspenders 80% organic plus 80% synthetic fertilizers, I was concerned about salinity and had the routine + salinity done. Far as I can tell salinity is OK but I'm "on the wagon" for P and K.

So did you basically not add anything to your soil except nitrogen? Thanks for the info. Been thinking of doing that myself, but haven't yet. Do you remember how long it took to get results?

Yeah, well I did till in only blood meal and ammonium sulfate for N back in the Fall, but I boost them with some dilute 30-10-10 soluble now Seems like it was about 10-12 days for the report.

Also, the Fall planted/still growing cereal rye has been consuming (some of) the Fall N. I'm just a bit leery of mixing up straight N to top dress or fertigate. My luck, I'd burn 'em. So far, I am more comfortable with a premixed, labeled soluble.

I do have some extra "backups" I can experiment with, (Already have a 4.7 ph 5% vinegar in water at 1:15 experiment going) I may trial different levels of AS in water and as dressing on them first.

Is this a result of using low N high P K fertilizers throughout the years?

I have always been against using low N high P K fertilizers.

Yeah, some. Have always been light handed with the N. I hear that this black land prairie black clay gumbo holds P and K no matter what, so how much is readily available has been a concern. But since I got the report, I am trialing high N (against my inclinations) with lower P and K. Have pretty good fruit set so far. Lots of JD C-tex, but can't get a Dester to set yet

I have used so much 13-13-13 on the garden before the it slightly burned everything I had.
Everything was practically blue green squash tomatoes and all.
It was one of the best crops I ever had.
I think as long as you have P and K I dont thing from my experience it matters how much N you use as long as you dont burn the plants up.

I had the (at that time) the county extension agent tell me that, He lived next door.
He is also the guy that told me why my plants were purple, this was back in 1987.
As is known now it was due to the cool nights.

The black gumbo might hold P and K but it doesn't mean the plants cant take it up from the soil.
That area used to be one of the best farming ares in Texas.
