Any fans of pokeweed here?
I saw a post on FB discussing the harvesting and eating of pokeweed shoots.
Does anyone here have experience cooking and/or eating them?

Yes me ate it all my life.
Pick/cut no higher than 18 inches boil toss out water boil again toss water boil and eat. If you don't do this it will run through you like a heard of buffalo and burn your lips and mouth. Takes a big tow sack full to make around 16 to 20 quarts. Worth |

In the article, it says you can prepare the shoots for eating by breading/battering and frying them up. I hate boiled vegetables like okra, (bowl of snot!) but I love fried okra.

Boil tender leaves (not shoots) in 2 waters, them chop it lightly, fry it in bacon grease with scrambled eggs. Served as supper along with ham slices, bacon, biscuits and sawmill gravy. Claud
