Default help. peppers changing color

I need help from all you chiiheads. I bought a purple fruited chili petin at HEB about a month ago. All of the fruit were purple. Now the fruits are all orange. It is planted in a 5"pot in a peat based mix. I have not fed it and it needs water every day. Does low fert cause color change in pepper fruit? Does anyone have any ideas?

The purple fruits are not fully ripe. When they change to orange they are at peak ripeness.
