At last- At last- I finaly got some WES seeds to germinate, along with some Bragger as well.

After three seperate attempts with Wes seeds from three different scources this season, all of which failed to show, A TV member finaly came up with the real Mc,Coy. the seeds came winging their way to me from sunny Texas in a bubble pack envelope of which I sowed them the same day in the same compost I have been using all season, and lo-and behold three days later there is little green tiny shoots just begining to show the tips through the compost, they havnt yet quite raised up their little heads into the air, but life is definatly stirring at last.

The Bragger seed is also doing the same, I would say that nearly every seed I sowed has germinated, the gentleman who was good enough to provide them for me certainly knows what he was doing when it comes to saving and storing good seed.

Absolutley first class quality seed- I only wish all the seed I got was such good quality.

Michael,

I don't know who you got your Wes seed from but I think it's an excellent overlooked variety and so I distributed lots of fresh seed for it at GW last year along with about 150 other varieties, mostly oder seed, and so any Wes seed you might have received from a GW member who grew it from my seed should be fresh.

it is seldom listed commercially but I've sent seed for it to Glenn at Sand Hill for growout this summer, along with Chapman, another excellent red beef, along with many others I thought he should be listing. Glenn already had Red Penna listed, still another fave of mine.

Wes seeds that are not old should have no problem at all germinating.

Thanks Carolyn- I have been trying to get some Wes seeds to start since the begining of the season, and at last I have got some.

The reason I wanted them so much is that there was such a good report and write up about them last season regarding flavour and size etc, I put them down as a must have tomato for this season- after three failures earlier in the season I was determined not to be beaten by it, come hell or high water.

Another very nice tomato thats listed in SSE yearbook that you quoted as saying it was absolutly delicious etc is the one called ( Lithuanian ) which I hope to aquire for next season, and I am very surprised that none of the usual seed suppliers took up this one to list in their tomato seed lists, as it sounds great.
