Self watering containers are great for a variety of veggie's including sweet and hot peppers. Of course you could grow them in pots too. I grow sweet/hot peppers in SWC's with great success. Most of my in ground planting is reserved for tomatoes and watermelon. Everything else I grow is in SWC's.

Hi Damon,
Why don't you grow some tomatoes in Ray's earthainers. I'm seen the huge growth posted in pic's and plan to plant out six tainers this coming week. Jim Last edited by jebgordon; March 31, 2009 at 03:35 AM. |

same fertilizer regardless
Lets say I decide to grow hot and sweet peppers in an earthtainer. What are the Fertilizer requirements. I presume not the same as tomatoes. Plus, how many plants can I put in??
Thanks all in advance |

Jim- I prefer to grow my tomatoes in my raised beds. And like I said above I use my 18 gallon self watering containers for just about everything else.
ricklynchore- I imagine you can plant more peppers per 31 gallon E.T. then an 18 gallon. I plant 4 hot or 2 sweet per 18 gallon. In my experience the fertilizer requirements for peppers is the same as tomatoes in SWC's. Damon |

I built 5 Earthtainer this year. Four 31 gallon size for two tomatoes each, and One 25 gallon for six peppers.
My brother has had great success with peppers in Earthboxes, so I had to try them out in an Earthtainer. I planted three peppers on each long side of the tote, with a two cup fertilizer strip down the middle using Espoma Garden tone fert. With the 31 gallon size, you may beable to fit Four peppers down each side. I'm also growing six peppers in an Earthbox, so it will be fun to see the difference between the two Brian |
