Cheap Diva cuke source
I thought I would pass this info on since I know there are many out there who love Diva cucumbers---They are our favorite.
Mountain Valley seeds sell them in bulk quantities. 100 seeds for $3.00, 500 for $6.50, 1000 seeds for $11.00, or you can buy the retail pack of 15 seeds for $2.29. I was blown away by these prices. http://www.mvseeds.com/cgi-bin/MySto...R_ID=207531998 |

What surprised me is that they don't seem to be a hybrid! Pine Tree sells them very reasonably as well. Definitely our favorite cuke!

One catalog I have says they are F-1, but several others I get do not indicate that they are hybrid.
Other places where they are reasonably priced are Totally Tomatoes and Johnnys tho that MV price may be even a bit better. Hard to compare when one sells them by the thousand and the others by the oz. Carol |

That is interesting. Johnny's developed this variety and it won an AAS award in 2002. Johnny's also describes it as "Plants are gynoecious (all-female) and parthenocarpic (grow fruits without pollination)." I wonder if that effects seed saving? Lee

If there is no pollination occurring then I believe the seeds would be missing half of it's genetic code. Even in tomatoes where there is self pollination occurring the seeds inherit half of the daddy's and half of the momma's. I would like to know if this is really true.

Cozy Cabin Nursery has 15 Diva seeds for $1.39. They refer to it as a hybrid as well, but I don't believe that it is. I thought it was supposed to be practically seedless if grown without other cukes nearby.
