I am interning for a farm that sells at local farmer's markets. A few years ago, a nameless woman came up to the owner and handed him some seeds. She said she didn't want the variety to die out and that was it. He is wondering if anyone has ever heard of the variety before. Please see below for the info he uses on his site.
Thank you, Lorri Far Eastern Rose: "Several years ago, right at the end of the Spring Garden Fair, a lady gave me some seeds from Russia. This one really surprised my taste buds with a unique sweet, fruity, delightful taste. Compact plants gave an abundant supply of salad sized fruits. Master Gardners have rated it very high in two tomato tastings." Color: Pink Days to Grow: 75 Growth: Indeterminate Group: Salad Pollination: Open Pollinated |

https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q...rn+Rose+tomato Tania has no listing for such a variety but maybe she knows it as spelled in Russian, so you might want to e-mail her or PM her to ask. It's also possible that the lady just named it herself since it had no name, which has been the case many times in which case it will be pretty much impossible to find more info. Carolyn

Lorri, can he provide a picture or description of the plant and fruit? I could ask about it on a Russian tomato forum.
Did the lady certainly say it's from Russia? The Russian spelling would be "Дальневосточная Роза". I could not find any tomato with this name. There is a tomato named Far Eastern Pink as mentioned by efisakov but the fruit size does not fit - up to 400gr. (1.5m tall). There are some other descriptions of Far Eastern Pink with smaller fruit. The picture will really help.

Here is a link to Uncle Wayne's site and this variety:
http://www.unclewaynestomatoes.com/node/3566 And he says salad size, which doesn't fit a 400 gm size fruit. Hope that helps, Carolyn

Thank you everyone for the responses and information. I will follow up with him to see if he has a picture of it. If not, I will have to wait to see this season's fruit.
P.S. Carolyn137, I wanted to mention that he has your book and is very fond of it! ![]() Thank you everyone! Lorri D |

Tania has this tomato:
http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/D...ochnyi_Rozovyi Lorri, I hope it is the same looking tomato. The name fits. Carolyn, BTW the name is the same as in the website I posted in #3 above but the look is different. In Russian "rosovyi" means pink. In Russian "rosa" means rose (flower). Translations is not always accurate. For instance "rose color" would be pinkish. The lady that brought tomato could have used that description. Hope it helps.

Each year I get better with my Russian but I have a long way to go and Alex, who is from Canada, once sent me a book about learning Russian but I don't know where it is right now. I think the following link might amuse you a lot: http://tomatoville.com/showthread.ph...t=tsar-kolokol Carolyn

I have been given a flyer that includes a picture, Yay!
He does not think it is the same one as on Tania's site, stating his is indeed smaller and lighter pink. He commented that he would like to share this tomato, so stay tuned...Thank you, Lorri D |

Thank you, Dutch. I do.
Unfortunately, I have tried different names that could have translated into Far East rose and none that I tried gave the same description. The tomato from the website in my post #3 is: medium height, round, up to 14 ounces, color pinkish-red. It is not exact match. Sorry.

Lorri, I looked at the flyer. The tomato picture points to this:

How did we get from a variety called Far East Pink to Husky Pink bred by Petoseed?
![]() https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q...k+tomato+seeds The series of Huskys bred by Petoseed were all F1 hybrids, and they went out of favor b'c the foliage was so dark and crinkled and most folks at the time just couldn't accept that.I remember contacting Petoseed for some reason and the subject ot the Husky series came up and that's what I was told by the person at Petoseed. The only one still around and available as the F1 is https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q...y+tomato+seeds And please ignore the Husky Pink F1 listed by Reimer seeds in the first link since they have a negative reputation on listing F1's that aren't F1's. ![]() Carolyn
