Crosses that have taken thus far
Black Cherry X Green Zebra
Black Cherry X Paul Robeson Black Trifele X Green Giant Gold Medal X Green Zebra In a few of these crosses, the mother plant is the smaller cultivar, with less seed for saving. While this may seem like more of a hassle, I find it less conflicting to emasculate flowers on a plant that has tons and tons of them. Also, I don't need much f1 seed of course. As you can see, I'd love a small black tomato that can out-do even black cherry. The Gold Medal x Green Zebra on the other hand, is an experiment to see what the F1 of such different tasting and looking tomatoes will bring. It will be interesting to see how the acid and complexity of the zebra effects the sweet, fruity and somewhat innocuous flavor profile of the gold medal. Not sure what to be expecting in the F1... a smallish, stripe free yellow globe? What about the trifele x gg? PL of course, but what color/shape? I would expect Gold Medal x Green Zebra to produce some segregants very much like Copia. No doubt there will be some very pretty F2 and F3 tomatoes from that one.
