Default Homemade Bacon Slicer.

Yes thats right a homemade bacon slicer.

Yesterday I brought up things I wanted but never bought for myself and a slicer was one of them.
Then I got this brain storm and needed to buy something.
I looked on line and saw it and realized I had already bought the darn thing for another project that I didn't follow through on.
The reason was I got something else in its place a rotary indexing table.
Then there was the miter fence project that I dont need anymore because I bought better miter fence.
So I went out in the garage and got what I was going to buy.
A 180 tooth carbon steel 10 inch table saw blade.
What I am going to do is put the blade on my saw attach one of my grinders to the top of the table and run it against the other with both spinning.
This will grind a perfect razor sharp edge on one side if the blade and get rid of the teeth.
Now I will have a bacon slicer blade I can use on the table saw.
Simply put a protrusion on the lead end of the fence adjust to thickness.
This will allow the bacon to fall out of the way of the blade and not get caught up in the fence.
Run the bacon on the miter fence I made and slice away.
The saw top will have heavy paper on it and the blade ran up through it so there will be no gap between the blade and the table saw insert.
When finished slicing wash down with Windex and oil the surfaces.
A bacon slicer that will cut thin slices of bacon.
Or at least in theory anyway.

There are no carbide teeth to grind off it is all carbon steel.
You couldn't grind carbide off with anything less than diamond if your life depended on it.

That actually looks doable.

I wouldn't want a naked razor blade on my table saw. Prolly not even as dangerous as a naked saw blade - which I have no problems working with - but my inner feelings say otherwise. (anyone mutter "snowflake" and I'll smack ya)

You know, it's strange how a picture or a sight reminds you of other things. This thread reminded me that I need to clean my rod and reel that I was using to catch bait fish with a couple weeks ago. The fish were about this big [_____________________] and I was using a 5 bearing Cardinal 104 reel on a Rhino indestructible pole.

Worth, hon, you are not going to cut up meat in your shop are you? Aren't you worried about tiny metal fragments from your milling getting into your bacon?

Of course I am going to cut up meat the metal is cleaned up and I make my sausage and grind meat out there.
It isn't like I am doing both at the same time.

I am almost through with the blade, the darn thing has hard spots in it harder than a file.
As it is now you could throw it and cut someones head off like that guy in Gold Finger with the hat.

I'm not even going to show how I did the grinding it was probably one of the most dangerous things I have done in a long time.
The blade was spinning in the open at 1000rpm's one way and the grinder was going the other way.
It is how I used to sharpen planner heads.
It's a wonder OSHA didn't show up.
Now I need to get the giant round razor blade some place safe before I walk into it.

Chill the bacon until it is just almost frozen, then slice it. A sheet of plexiglas clamped to the tabletop will save a lot of grief.

I never did the bacon slicer but I used to work for a company in the late 70's that made commercial bologna slicers.I had to climb a ladder to work on it.The thing was huge.
Precise 1lb stacks of meat from the tapered hunks of bologna in the pre-computer days.
The meat was cut frozen.
