Planting Peas
http://www.durgan.org/URL/?BTTEO 4 May 2014 Planting Peas
Two types of peas were planted. Tall telephone a large pod climbing pea 12 foot row, and Oregon Sugar Pod II an 8 foot row.A trellis was installed of 4 by 8 sheets of concrete wire. Three to give support for the peas. Some soil blocks of the snow peas were planted which were germinated in the green house.A board was placed over the rows until the peas germinate. Peas were planted at a depth of twice the diameter of the peas and slightly covered with soil. Spacing was about two inches. Peas an be difficult to germinate so planting relatively thick is probably prudent. |

I built a pea trellis yesterday. It's made out of apple sticks and string. There is a T post on either end to provide stability. It is Florida weave style. The peas are part of my red-podded breeding project. They were planted in about February.
