Lamb, Ham, bunny, or Spam...
I'm rotis-ing a lamb leg. Made a rub and a lemon mustard marinade. Too many recipes and just did what i do...
Nice veggies at the market....artichokes and asparagus. My tomatoes are 3 inch babies and gotta do what we do this time of year... Happy Easter tomVille. |

Ham, but first we have to get through the ravioli, sausages, meatballs, eggplant parm and we have to save room for pastries, Easter bread and rum cake...maybe we should skip the ham.

Isn't it amazing how good mustard can make some meat taste.
Asparagus is one of our favorite special vegetables. They usually cost near $3 a pound. A local grocery store has been selling it for $1.29 a pound for the past 3 weeks. We have eaten so much of it lately - I asked my wife if she wanted some for tomorrow's meal and she said, " I want sweet pea salad". I guess you can overeat the more expensive vegetables too. I can make sweet pea salad any day of the year for around $1.25 or less. |

Beans, potatoes, cabbage, and peas.
Cornbread, sausage, fish, and cheese. Ham and eggs, soups and steaks. Wienies, oysters, and salmon cakes. My granddaddy and I used to play a game of what's for supper. I would ask the question and he would reply the above. Then we had a big hug. Every Easter, I always remember that this celebration is really about family values and memories. So, in this family, today is about being together and the menu really doesn't matter all that much. Happy Holiday to all.

I forgot all about Easter and had no idea it was today.
But just now Zeus my dog friend from up the street came in the house to see me. It looks like this time they tried to tie him up with an extension cord and he chewed through it. As for sweet pea salad mayonnaise salt black pepper sweet red peppers chopped onion olive oil sugar vinegar if you want. The sky is the limit as to what you can put in it. I like to use frozen peas they are much better than the canned ones but both will work and you have to use what you can. Worth |

Well a ham is in the oven, klobasi has been cooked and lying in a bed of sauerkraut in the crockpot, and I made two kinds of Hrudka (Slovak Easter Egg Cheese), one with black pepper and the other with crushed red pepper flakes.

Sweet Pea Salad - back in the mid 80's, I used to make a salad called Crunchy Pea Salad. It used thawed, drained frozen peas, along with cashews (added at last minute) and other things like red onion, jicama and celery. It had a mayo based sauce and I think I added parmesan cheese to that. Pretty yummy stuff!

I love cheese but no cheddar cheese in any salad for me of any kind.
Hard cheese yes just not cheddar. If I were to be presented with it I would remove it from mine set it aside and eat it on its own. Maybe grated but not big chunks. It is one of the very few things I am picky about. Worth |

Here is what I have had for Easter dinner so far and the recipe.
Open a package of crackers and eat all but two of them. Let sit on counter for two months and then eat with two cups of coffee. It is 6:00 PM and I have been so busy this is all I have had to eat all day. As bad as it seems cooking is about the last thing I want to do right now. The other night all I ate was two slices of bread with mustard on them. I simply cant work on my project take care of a garden clean house and cook. Worth |

For me today it was 3 crunchy tacos from Taco Bell. Tasted good too.
I love slices of spam fried nice and crispy in butter and a side of sliced tomatoes with ranch dressing. Yum... Pea salad. I can eat the heck out of it, but somehow when I have tried to make it, it just doesn't taste as good as what the church ladies make and bring for get togethers. I'll have to give the recipe above a try. Wonder how it would taste if a few cherry or grape tomatoes got added to the mix. |

We had Easter dinner with my mother on Saturday and it was a treat. Mom roasted chunks of potato and sweet potato and a big slab of salmon. I made mussels in black tomato aspic - from frozen tomatoes of course - and served on a bed of chickweed since that's the only green thing I have besides onions. And a few bits of endive from the farm cellar. And I made blueberry cake with cinnamon glaze for dessert. And bro brought a loaf of delicious sourdough, but of course he didn't make that.
Best of all, Mom finally heard me whining that we never get chocolate bunnies any more, she bought us each a ritzy dark chocolate bar. Treat!!! Worth, I have the same problem so I learned my lesson, do the bulk cooking before you start a project, so you have some ready meals in the freezer you can dump in a pot and reheat. Cracker day is never a good day for me. Oakley, it's nice to see the Mt. Scio savory in your kitchen. I thought no one in the world appreciates the savory but us here. |

I'm near out of my savory I think i'll take a two day drive and a ferry ride soon to re-stock (one year i bought the entire cardboard display of little packets as they were out of the containers)
Savory in Fish-n-Brewis divine. Worth, keep some of that good Austin Boudin in your freezer... I like to keep all sorts of pints and 1/2 pints of homemade broths and broth with beans and rice with broth/w greens etc etc and mix and match for a quicky meal. The lamb was fantastic, pink and tender. So much left over! Looking at recipes now and then froze some thick slices for later...tonight will be a Souvlaki taco-ish thing. (bunny provided to divert the focus of the not so pretty meat hunk) |
