the "Garden to Go"
I am "marketing" a garden 6 pack for my greenhouse and farmers market stand. I have a 6 pack basket to fill. I am doing a garden 6 pack, a salsa 6 pack and an herb 6 pack. if you were to have a choice of plants for any of them what would your 6 picks be for the pack?
For the Salsa pack I did a bell pepper a jalepeno, a cherry, a roma, cilantro and onions.... would you change that or leave it? the herbs one is assorted herbs or all basil / 6 varieties what are your thoughts?

I would leave it as you wrote. My personal choice for the cherry tomato would be one slightly more acidic than sweet.

What a neat idea! What's going in the garden one?

the garden one has parsley, cucumbers(3) 2 tomatoes and two peppers or a basil instead of the cukes.

Sungold is perfect because of its three stages of sweetness. Earlier picked is slightly more acidic. Medium ripeness is pretty equal, and fully ripe is kind of sweet.

I love the idea of a mixed pack 'garden to go'.
I was surprised, one year I had loads of celery seedlings and they didn't sell at all. Basil is always a big seller, cilantro and parsely do well too but basil beats all. Peppers, a very easy sell. Next time I have too many celery, I might try slipping them into a mix. Let us know how this works out for you. |

thanks. I have my first market in 3 weeks. they should be nice sized for just getting in the garden. our frost date is about may 15th but we really don't even recommend until at least the 21st.

Bower, this is the 3rd year I have done this. last year wasn't as good as the 1st as the weather was a real factor to getting anything in on time last year. My first market of the year we had a HIGH of 40 that day and a freeze that night. it was awful. but this is the first year I decided to make a "salsa" or herb pack.

I think it looks like a great idea, especially for those with a small garden or pots! Best of luck and good weather wishes for your market.

thanks Imp. I came up with this idea from several comments from customers.. " I don't need" 4 or 6 tomatoes or peppers or cukes or whatever it was... they just want one or two to go pick from a plant to eat fresh. not canning or feeding a family. It is amazing to me how many single person or two person households I have as customers. today we planted up more of the herb 6 packs and did basil 6 packs. I have, lemon, lime, african blue, lettuce leaf, sweet, cardinal, globe, cinnamon and I think a couple more varieties... the lemon or lime makes a great substitute for salsa if a person doesn't like cilantro.
I think next year I will do a container gardening pack. maybe with dwarf tomatoes, spacemaster cukes, patio peppers etc.
